I thought I read this somewhere on this site, but is it true that they have delayed the production of 6. 7L in pickups due to excessive inventory of 5. 9s?

If this is the case does anyone know when dealers will start taking orders again?

I was looking at one of the fleet sites over the weekend that lists production delays and lead times for all the manufactures, and it said that 6. 7 production would start next Monday on January 15th. This is one week later than it had stated throughout the fall.

Very possible... The 2007 emission regulation is based on engine manufacture date not vehicle build date.

Build Date

Sorry Bill, but that's not correct--the emmission regulation applies to the build date of the truck and not the date the engine itself was manufactured in Indiana. That's why you can no longer order a new Dodge Ram 2500/3500 with a 5. 9L. I learned this the hard way when I ordered a new Mega Cab with a 5. 9 in Dec only to be told that my truck wasn't built and won't be because they cannot build trucks with the 5. 9 after 31 Dec 2006 due to the 1 Jan 07 EPA regs.

Because of the EPA regs, from now on the only engine offered on a new 2007. 5 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 is the new 6. 7L EPA-compliant CTD or the 5. 7 hemi gasser.

I ordered a MegaCab 3500 with a 6. 7L in December, I got a VON and confirmation of the order on December 19th. I got word from the dealer last week that they were able to get an allocation from Dodge, a VIN was issued and apparently the truck is now being built. The dealer said I should receive it by the first or second week in February.

So did you cancel your order? I would if I were you and look for something on the lot ... any CTD on the lot, anywhere in the US.

No I didn't cancel my order, I really want the 6 speed transmission. I do a lot of highway miles and I prefer the 6 speed. I may be opening myself up to problems, but that's what the warranty is for. I have also been searching the inventories around where we live and dealer inventories aren't great. There are trucks just not in the color and options I want.

I would have thought there would still be a good amount of 6-speed manuals out west on the lots you could take a pick from and save thousansds. Just hate to see a TDR member be a guini-pig for these new trucks.

I know EB has one and has not had any "reported" problems. But the new stuff on the engines will cost THOUSANDS to fix when they do go wrong ... espcially the exhaust system ... no more $500 turbo-back systems when the original ones rust out, you'll be spending multi thousands for a complete system.

Also consider the periodic intake cleanings you'll have to do on the truck due to the new EGR ... more big $$$ you'll need to spend.

I haven't "reported" any problems, because I haven' had any. If I have any problems, I will report them.

Yes I did go ahead and cancel the order. Not only because I'm leery of first year engines but also because I'm in the Air Force stationed in Germany (don't want to take a chance with a new ULSD US emissions engine in European diesel--a different blend I'm sure)--plus AAFES Car Sales wanted to charge me another $1,300 to go with the 6. 7 instead.

When we move back to the States in '08, I'll shop for an '06 with the 5. 9 or look at the 6. 7 after I hear what the guinea pigs buying the first year model have to say about the new motor. As I I read more about the 6. 7 in TDR and Dieselram, I become more comfortable with the motor.

I saw a brand new 2006 Mega 2500 SLT with CTD on eBay for $33. 8K... if I was in the States I'd probably buy that truck now!http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006...QQihZ001QQcategoryZ119143QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

For those looking for a leftover 2006 with a G56 6-speed, check out eBay Motors and take a look at this truck!!

The differences in peoples attitudes make the world go 'round. Some like to be at the front of the line when the latest technology. These are known as early adopters. I have never met EB, but I would put him in this category. He had a 2003 which worked out very well for him and he has the first 6. 7 that I know of on this board. I like to be in the front half of the line, but not first in line. Others want only the tried and true proven products that are known quantities. The latter group is very useful for cleaning up old inventory. It takes several years before we know which group was right.

The only group that gets under my skin is the " I'm glad I was smart enough to buy the last year" group. I remember a bunch of those that bought the 2002 trucks to avoid all the pollution "crap" that was going to be on the 2003 and later models. Come to find out, there were not that many pollution deviecs on any of the Common rail 5. 9 trucks that hampered performance. Many of these "I'm glad I got mine in time" buyers now own third gens.

It will be two or three years before we know which trucks are the best. That will be just in time for the tier 4 engines with the on-board Green peace activists to be launched. Boy am I glad I will buy just before that happens.

Speaking of next generation trucks, when will Dodge redesign the 2500/3500 body style?

I read somewhere (AutoWeek?) that the 09 will be a new generation of Dodge trucks.

They put it thisway: GM rushed out the Silverado early so they could be truck of the year in 07. Ford has their new PowerStoke in 08 so they can be truck of the year, and Dodge has their new generation in 09 so THEY can be truck of the year... it's all arranged nicely.

Did you get pricing on this truck at time of order?

Thanks

I ordered my truck after the new pricing (9 Jan 07) hoping that the HP would be higher and all I got was a $6000. 00 6. 7 instead of $5500. 00 and $1300. 00 DPF cost that was not there before new pricing. If you ordered before Jan you saved lots of money. Ordered 3500 Quadcab DRW C&C 4X4 305HP

That 6 speed auto in the pickup is going to be a nice package. That baby is going to roll with all those gears. If you like to mod a truck you may want to look for a 5. 9. I don't think you will be able to do much with a 6. 7 for a while.
