Mark,

Keep launching like that your gonna go broke.

Your probably going to need a good 5600.....

I might know someone that has one for around $6k#ad

On a side note: Darn this sledpulling hobby!!!

PS If your flywheel has been destroyed then the clutch is junked too.

Yep. Rows the gears fine though; good pedal pressure. I think the transmission and maybe even the clutch are fine. Clutch sounds the same as it always has; just grinding from in front of it. Lotsa sparks out of the bottom of the bellhousing if you try to engage it. So. . input shaft and/or flywheel. We'll see... I need a lift and a shed bad!

About my launches... yeah; they hurt.

About my combination -- if I don't spool that darn turbo at the line it won't light up. That's what's going on with those launches. That last one I broke on I was having a hard time keeping it lit and staged too long. Got it too hot slipping the clutch plus it's just plain hard on it. I think 'tough to spool' problem is a mix between the silver bullet and the mild cam upgrade. The clay didn't help... although it was a decent surface driven properly.

I'm putting my twins back in and not pulling DHRA any longer. I can launch with my twins with little boost and it'll light right up the first 5-10 feet. It'll definitely save on parts this year. We'll be doing a lot more hooks pulling the local stuff (within 200 miles of Omaha) and launching that hard it'll break too often. We're planning on NW Missouri pulls; West Central Iowa pulls; and Nebraska Power Pullers if I get a guillotine in. Right now getting it moving has precedence on the guillotine so that may be next year again.

On the bright side; atleast I broke it pre-season and not when there's a pull every weekend.

Apparently DHRA no longer allows Ford's in any class under Modified? Since Fords come from the factory with twins.

Mark,

I think you need to re-think the tires you are using. I think you'll have much better luck with a 33" AT unit.

Also, I dont have any problem lighting my Aurora 5000 which is somewhat larger than the silver bullet. My honest opinion I think your launching could use some fine tuning.

Not so. Work Stock, Super Street, and Modified all allow twins, in different configurations.

Its too bad you aren't going to be with us this year, you were always a good show.

I haven't hooked enough to call myself a pro or even very expeirenced so I won't refute that I could use from fine-tuning. Definitely launching too hard. But that turbo definitely won't light. That I'll stick to. If it isn't lit up at the line it won't go.

I absolutely want to roll into it which is a way better launch process... but 2/3rd length pulls from the turbo not lighting is the by-product when I do (at the moment). Early season last year I could roll into it and it would go but about mid season I couldn't get it lit. That was after some changes we're still sorting out.

Don't think I'm saying it's a bad turbo; it isn't. Something about my combo -- can't get it lit unless I spin it up early.

Work Stock and Street Diesel allow moderate twins? I'm reading rulebook version 2. 7. 4 and revisions thru 2. 7. 7 and it says "single turbocharger" in Street Diesel and Work Stock refers to turbocharger (singular).

If I can pull street diesel with moderate twins I'll make a few DHRA pulls Indy and West of there.

It may have been discussed already; I'll do some searches. But it sure seems to me like new Fords are eliminated from DHRA until at least Super Street (not Modified; I stand corrected).

For anyone that knows physics: I wonder how much energy was released when whatever it was went BANG!!??

Been thinking on this ... I'm curious too. One of the engineers or even a good transmission guy could probably tell us the shear point of the 1 3/8 NV5600 input shaft (assuming that's what broke).

Glad you came to pull. You made a good show of it even if a bunch of duramaxes took the show in the end.
Hope you get it going soon.

What kind of boost do most of you launch with anyway? My brother used to stage his @ about 30psi with a lot less tire of course. Just curious.

Launched the first 2 times at about 13-15lbs; then pushed it to 20lbs that last time when I broke. With the way this truck is running it's making quite a bit of power at relatively low boost. The downside of that is it makes it a lot more difficult to spin up and keep lit.

Like I was telling you at the track -- I was wishing I'd brought my "street tires" (ATs) along that afternoon. The MTs can do fine though; I just screwed up that launch. I could get away with that 20lb launch if I let the clutch slip a little longer. Too much biting at one time.

thats a noise i dont wanna hear.

maybe ill keep my extra 5600 around instead of selling it.

I think it's a good idea to have a spare transmission... if I have to buy another I'll definitely get this one rebuilt and have it sitting in the garage. I know I'll have a spare input shaft sitting in the garage this week; even if that's not the broken part. If that is the part. . good! I'd rather replace an input shaft here and there then just about anything else I could break.

I would think if the transmission was shelled out it'd make terrible noise even rolling. . and the gears still row fine. Have to get it apart to know for sure.

getting ready to rebuild mine for the 3rd time. 1st time i took all the teeth off 6th, then i had a bearing noise, this time its the 6th gear synrcho.

but this time i am gonna have all the bearings replaced and any synchro that even shows a sign of wear because its gonna sit in my garage as a spare, but I may sell it and i want it to be a fresh and good as new unit if i sell it.

The video does not do it justice. The amount of power being unloaded all at once and the loud snap that echo'd in the building made my wallet hurt:eek:

It was good to see you make all the pulls you did last year. Keep us up to date on how your doing and what was broke. If I hunt back in my pics, I think I may have some of you at Stoneboro last year..... I'll go check.
