events?

May Madness - driving out from east coast?

Sleddy, a couple of questions:

Is the sled pull going to be at the Silver State motors track somewhere?

Do you know what days and time the events will take place? ie. , racing, and sled pulling?

Thanks

Mesquite isn't "55 miles up I-15", it is the distance from Exit (mile) 56 to 122 = 66 miles. Is 11/55 = 20% the midwest correction factor? :)

Heber, good question. When David Dunbar gets back in Monday, he will have the complete schedule, ready to go!!

The competition will be on, and near, the dragstrip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't Silver State Motors, a business, that is near Las Vegas Motor Speedway??

Joe, I believe that mileage figure came from Virginia.

... Joe, I believe that mileage figure came from Virginia.

No, the mileage figure comes from Indiana and Kansas. But as I recall, the time to Mesquite is about the same as the time to the Strip in Vegas from the track, considering the parking lot I-15 turns into between the track and the Strip.

The midwest correction factor is inversely proportional to the population density. Or, in other words, 66 miles around Indy would take about an hour at the best of times due to the population density. But 66 miles NE of Vegas takes about 40 minutes, due to the lack of population density. Well, OK, *some* of us like running 90-100 MPH on the open, lightly-trafficked highway :D :D, whereas grandpas like Dunbar would take 55 minutes to make the run, and old grandmas like Sledpuller would take 80 minutes.

(Driving from Las Cruces to Hobbs in two hours or less was the standing challenge. I came pretty close a few times; I always slowed down for the little towns along the way. )

Sleddy, I ment to say near Las Vegas speedway. Silver State is just outside the entry gate and that's where you can dyno. . As far as distance from Mesquite to Las Vegas, I know it is 110 miles from St. George to Las Vegas, and 50 miles to Mesquite from St George or 45 minutes because of the turns going thru Arizona, and past the radar trap at the Arizona/Nevada border. That leaves 60 or so miles from Mesquite to the outskirts of Las Vegas ( speedway). At 80 miles an hour you can make it to the track in 45 minutes. I once was being chased by a Las Vegas bike gang leaving Vegas as they blocked the entire I-15 and wouldn't let anyone past heading north. So I nailed my truck on the far right emergency lane, passed about 100 bikers, smoked them bad. They got p@#%ed chased me to about 5 miles outside of Mesquite. I made that run in about 35 minutes, and hid out at the Oasis in Mesquite, until the coast was clear. ( true story. . :-laf :-laf ) the plus side of the story, is I made $165. 00 playing wheel of fortune at the Oasis. Oo. Oo.

I wonder if those kids in the smoke stories thread read yours? Anyone can smoke an 8th grader waiting for the bus, smoking a gang of bikers takes guts!!!LOL

Ok folks, spread the word... rooms ARE filling up.

The Falcon Ridge is booked.

The Virgin River still has rooms available. They said when booking the rooms be sure to say you are coming for the Diesel Hot Rod Association event or the DHRA event, and/or use group # 30504. This will get the discounted rates.

Remember, they will release our blocked rooms April 13th so if you need a room, I would get it now.

I called Falcon ridge a couple of weeks ago. The lady answered the phone, "let me guess your going to the diesel nationals" No, hi, nothing. :-laf

I booked our team rooms this morning, no issues at the virgin river. Do you have times for the events yet? Trying to set up our travel schedules.

Great news Scott. Can't wait to see your dragster out there.

As far as schedule, we are working that out as we speak. I don't have times to release yet, but generally we will begin both days with drag racing and after lunch end them with Sled Pulling. Saturday will be the day we have qualifying rounds, Sunday is the day we will have eliminations. Saturday will be more of the hook for fun day for the sled, with Sunday being the competition day.

Saturday after the racing action, we will have after hours entertainment as well as the Hot Bodies contest. :D

I am working to complete the tentative schedule though to release for everyone.

Glad you are gonna be able to make it. Oo.

well crap, plans have changed and I'm not going to make it #@$%!

I really wanted to go but I'm not going to sit around for 2 weeks after my school graduates to wait for it.

I have a room at the Falcon Ridge hotel for the 4th and 5th. Any one want it?

Is Gene gonna represent DHRA in the hot bodies contest???????????????

We have 4 rooms at the Virgin River Hotel. We are looking forward to seeing you all at this event. We are hoping to have our truck ready by then. If we make it, it will be nice to get some runs at Las Vegas. Silver States Dyno is very good and we usually set up a canopy for everyone that needs to get out of the sun. Good place to chill! Thanks
