Good thing my neighbor asked when the pull was so he could tell his brother (who went to the Rural Retreat pull). Otherwise I'd've been sitting at the Ironto exit yesterday morning wondering where everyone was.

I think my internal calendar is completely out of whack. I think I need to give it a couple.

If it's going to be a long day/night, any reason we can't pack a grill and make lupper about 5? We simply *must* arrive early to get prime parking, you see.



Oh, and BTW, does anyone have extra-deep sockets? I have a brandy-new oil pressure sensor, but no socket to install it. 1-1/16" should do the trick... . If'n I remember, I'll try to pressure wash the engine. There seems to be a lot of oil underneath of late. I think I really need to re-ring and re-seal it. It's getting bad. And that is not likely to be an afternoon shadetree job.

Make that *extra* deep. I have deep sockets, but they aren't *quite* deep enough. BUt that might be because they are impact sockets.

I believe the sensor is on the left side, just above the engine mount, behind the PS pump. It may be a ... challenge to get to.

I'll bring several extensions, ratchets, etc, as it sounds like they took the usual route of making it easy for the mechanic that has bendable arms and ratcheting fingers to get it...



I see the thing sitting over back of the starter and near the side motor mount...



Norm, I have a tool I keep in my truck to turn the belt tensioner, we can use it and put on your belt while we're there... no probs...



Sounds like we're going to have another wrenching party, only this time we'll be doing more than one...

Sorry I am so slow to reply. I was slammed the couple of days before the 4th. We'll get your belt put on, no probs... I may try to head for the home 20 a bit early if I can because I have to run a bus route Sunday morning...



Sorry to hear Dan's not coming, hope he can make it next time. I turned down my neighbor who wanted me to go to Bristol to Thunder Valley, but once you watch the trucks drag or pull, the regular drags seem a bit mundane... I guess it's the lack of the black smoke... I'd probably be one to watch coal fired steam engines sled pull as long they put out a lot of black smoke...

Well fella's, here's a little inside intell, we will be pitting outside of the park. If you are coming from route 58 into Galax, get onto Main street and then go through 5 stoplights-next turn left in front of "Blevins building supply"(before Hardee's), down at the stop sign we'll be in the parking lot on your right 1. 5 blocks up.

Well now. It was a quiet, relaxing afternoon. We got Norm's new serpentine belt installed. We didn't get my oil pressure send installed: couldn't find a deep-enough socket. However, someone suggested cutting up two sockets in half just so and welding two of the parts together to make a deep socket. This might be worth looking at, unless an extra-deep socket costs less.



Due to scheduling mishaps and changes and misadvertising of times, nothing happened until about 4PM. So we sat under the spreading tree for a while, where it was delightfully cool. Until a wiseacre of a puller told us the FD said we had to move. And the others believed him. I guess they didn't hear the second part: "because you look too comfortable". So we sat in the grandstands, chatted and supervised the track preparation.



Gimpy took lots of pics of the first classes up to the gassers before he (they) had to leave. I got pics of the Mod/Open class (posted on my website, then I had to leave and meet up with my brother by the New River for sammiches. I got an OK pic of Robert Miller's pull (too bad stills don't capture crowd sound - they were certainly impressed with Robert's pull), and (in my most humble opinion) I got a *really* good pic of Instigator.



Considering it's the first pull the Galax VFD have put on in many years, it went pretty well. They know their planning and scheduling didn't work as well as they'd've liked; expect next year to be much better. The pull itself was run cleanly and efficiently; could be because Frank Edwards was involved.



The track was well used and was the right mix of sand and clay - 10 years ago. In the intervening years, it became mostly sand. They scraped at least 8" off the top, and still couldn't find enough clay. But it hooked well enough, as there was some carnage.



It was a good day and a relaxing afternoon. Except for me *almost* getting caught by VA Troopers on I-81 twice (heading down and coming home). I guess they don't much care about 5-10 over.



I'm sure Norm will have a full roster of BRTDB members who were in attendance.

Man, what a fun day. Enjoyed the time to sit and relax without working around the house, or just working at anything domestic as a matter of fact! And to be around the BRTDB guys and Diesel trucks, well, it don't get much better. I'm with you, Norm, as I sure could've used a baloney sandwich somewhere along in the afternoon, but the Wendy's salads sufficed. I think next time, I'll have to make a food run for us or something, especially since there wasn't that much going on until about 4 as fest3er said. And fest3er, sorry that the old MAC tools socket wasn't quite deep enough. I'm going to check with our Snap-On guy Tuesday to see if there is a special one they have for the oil pressure senders. If you need one, then I'm sure to find someone else who'll need that changed, probably ME!!! I enjoyed spending the day with you guys, and by the way, how'd Andy make out? Was it a successful day for him?



Norm, thanks for organizing this thing, getting us together, and helping the group to plan our events. We can't do without your guidance.
