When my truck is under a big load I hear a ticking noise from under the hood close to the injection pump and the throttle vibrates a little when this happens. Usually when I hit a set of railroad tracks or bumps! Has any body had this problem with there truck or anybody have any Ideas about it!

When I read the thread title I was thinking exhaust leak. But after I read your post I'm not sure. Only advise I can give is to look for loose parts. It sounds like something is kinda tight until a big bump loosens the gap just enough to let something by. Maybe injection lines boost boots, or even the intake manifold. Good luck and let us know what you find.

I will. I had the flex plat looked at but I was reading in an old issue of tdr that the Overflow valve was bad on the injection pump! Could that be the problem!?

this sounds just like what my truck is doing right now. I was told by some people on this great forum that it was either overflow valve or lift pump. I have not had any time to look at my problem, but I hope when I change the overflow valve that fixes the problem.

How hard is it to change the overflow valve? Do you have any idea! and I don't think that it will hurt the truck at all!

ordered overflow valve yesterday, will be here on monday. will try to install on tuesday and will let you know how things went. cost for valve from local dodge dealership was 160. 00. is that about the right price?

Lt,

WAY too much money! :eek:If you think it may be the OF valve, take it off, take it apart, and stretch the spring out on it. It should be 1/2" long. This will not be a long term fix because IF the spring is weak, it will return to the shorter length after stretching it in a very shot time, but at least it will tell you if it's bad without spending $160.

The dealer rips you off on gaskets too. When I did mine, I forgot the gaskets, the dealer wanted $3. 95 a piece!!#@$%! All for a stupid rubber coated washer. And they had to order them anyway! I ended up finding them somewhere online for $. 99. Much better. :D

change valve out last night ,took about 30 min like was stated earlier. did not fix my problem (still Ticking) . now i am looking at lift pump, so as to not got messed over by local dealership again how do I contact Piers or somebody else that handles parts for our vehicles. My is a 98 12 valve.

thanks for the info Ron. local dealer qouted price for lift pump at 279. 00, found lift pump on piers for 129. 00 (now thats a good price). Again thanks.

Lt,

Have you checked your fuel filter? Mine was filled up with gunk, I'm guessing from the ULSD change-over, and after I changed it the ticking went away. Worth a try before going to the trouble and expense of changing out the lift pump.

If you have a case tractor dealer close by check with them. Same pump, different fitting,so you'll have to swap them. I found that replacing my bolts with 55mm long studs made reassembly a lot easier. So you know, the assy takes two gaskets.

I just did my filter... early... and it was full of black crap for lack of a better term. It was like if you have ever had engine sludge between your fingers in the pleats of the filter. I was told by a buddy that hauls the fuel that it is because this new ultra low has more cleaning power somehow. i guess it moves the crap at the bottom of your suppilers tank and your fuel tank to the filter... especially if it was just changed to ultra low. that is what i've heard, not goseple by any means. in my case it was true. get my fuel in same place all the time. Ran better after of course. I have seen evendence of this at work as well with trucks coming in for low power. On INT. 444 v-8 only showed 3 lbs fuel psi at wot and we just serviced it a month before... and it too had the sludge like junk in the filter. Ran great after, fule psi normal too. Just my 2 cents worth.
