PIctures from saturday's DHRA event in Houston

I thought this was amusing

I have found that if I run by the tach and keep it at a consistant 2,000 to 2,100 rpms I get the best mileage on the highway with the cruise control on. It translates to around 64 mph for me with stock rubber and 4:10's. I run in the right-hand lane and get a big kick out of the people who race on by only to be sitting at the bottom of the ramp when I roll up behind them. I really believe the 4:10's help in town IF I can keep my right foot under control. :-laf

OK I just completed my 3rd test - and believe me it works - and if you're patient it will work for you as well - GUARANTEED! And it doesn't require that you buy anything!!!!

I just completed a 537 mile roundtrip - and used only 21. 3 gallons - NO BS - simple fact! you do the math - (it's just a hair over Oo. 25 MPG!!! This is my 3rd test over a year and a half using this method... . and it has always delievered these great results. You can to - it's simply DO NOT GO OVER 60 MPH! I know it's hard - believe me - but again I keep my cool and was so happy that I didn't use any more expensive fuel... . the increase in my truck from 60-70 costs me 20% in fuel! Hey I'm retired and - I love not giving these clowns anymore $$ than I have to..... so slow down - enjoy life - and **** of OPEC!

Totally agree. I drive between 60 and 65 and have not been rear ended yet.

My wife & I just got home from a 12,324 mile trip to Fl, CT, OH, IN, Il & back to NV. We averaged the whole trip 17. 2 pulling our 10,000 RV. That mileage also included some driving with out the RV. We run 62 mph.

As stated I'm retired, hate like heck to pay OPEC. Highway speed should stay where it is, just don't get irate when you come up behind me, I'll pull over and let you go by when I can. I realize you guys are still working:):)I drive for fuel mileage not speed:)

FWIW, it doesnt matter what the speed limit is. There are going to be people that believe the limit doesnt apply to them.

I dont know how many times Iv gone to Vegas on the I 15 and been doing just above the posted limit, only to have some joker in a Beemer or Mercedes blow by me like they owned the road.

Only to see them at trhe gas station at Stateline gassing up then roaring off.

Makes no sense to me.

Im another one that is retired and when we re in the truck Ill keep it right at 2000. And still get around 18-20.

If you have to "pull over when you can". then you're in the wrong lane to begin with.

:)

On a two lane road?

A few of us up here on the way to a D-max dyno day managed to get a little Ranger to create a lane on the gravel. :)

Not sayin', just sayin' :) He did have his depth perception down perty well and I never seen a Turkey put the brakes on in mid air like that, kinda like in the Top gun knock off Hot Shots :-laf

But that's a different story.

As far as a 2 lane road? If your doing under the speed limit, you have issues and deserve what every soot you get thrown at you. If you are doing the limit or faster, the person behind you needs to have their head checked. It's rather simple.

There are a lot of two lane highways in norhern CA and OR. If I'm going slower than the traffic (pulling my trailer or being followed by nuts) I will pull off when I get the chance, but I won't risk a wreck or pull over in a rough place if I'm towing. In OR the speed limit is 55 or less on all two lane roads regardless of how good they are. That does cause some problems.

I consistently get around 19. 7 for highway cruising, whether I drive 65 or 80, doesn't matter and have never gotten over 20 no matter what I try. And as far as lowering the speed limit, NO WAY!!! Time is money and I have to cover a lot of ground for my business, dropping the speed limit to 55 and adhering to it would cost precious time that I could be billing for. Every time I hear someone saying it should be lowered they are usually retired, well good for you, that doesn't mean the rest of us are ready to slow down.

Amen! Speed limits are simply for revenue building anyway. There should be SUGGESTIONS as to a safe speed, such as on a curvy/hilly road and I agree with some kind of a limit in a residential/commercial/in-town area, but on interstates and wide-open roads, it should be according to your best judgement as to conditions, your ability and your vehicle. Our interstates and many "surface roads" are capable of considerably more speed safely than they are "posted" at. I like to drive economicly too, that is why I bought my Jeep with the diesel. Plenty of power to run 90mph, nimble, easy to park, stops and maneuvers quickly and just fun to drive. This is why, if we are REALLY going to do anything to save fuel, we need more DIESEL choices. Same vehicles, just the option to have a diesel engine in every vehicle available. THAT will save fuel more than anything!

Applying secrets...

I've already implemented the 60mph secret beginning Friday, and will be consistant all weekend. I'll report back next week with my results. I average 20mpg right now, 32-fillups averaged=20. 02mpg this was at 65-70mph. I already believed the CTD was the best kept secret in transportion:D that's why I drive one:eek:

Patrick.

Jason: You ever hear of or see a "Slow vehicle pull out ahead, delay of 5 vehicles or more illegal" All over the place on the left coast in the mountains.

Don't recall, but if that's enforced, Best traffic law/sign EVAR!

See, it's not the 80mph that's inefficient, it's the 80 --> 55 --> 80 when the moron finally decides to get over to the right and stop pacing the guy in the right that will hit the wallet hard. What most don't put in the equation for money spent on fuel is the "time" you save by going a little faster vs money spent of fuel.

750miles at 60mph is 12. 5 hours.

750miles at 85 is 8 hours.

4. 5 hours at say your worth working at $30/hour difference in time cost more then the fuel burnt going 85 as apposed to 60.

my problem is that it takes 13 hours to do this 750mile trip with the speed-o at 80-85mph most of the time some how averages 60mph. imagine only going 60? for sure an 18 hours trip. Now if these tolls, and slow pokes just get out of the way and suggested speed limits be installed... .

Here in Wisconsin we have a large number (seems to be the majority) of motorists that can't read (including the cops) nor know the law on our roads. Signs on multi-lane Interstate (where 65 is speed limit) read slower traffic keep to the right. In Wisconsin the law states when driving you shall keep to the right except when approaching a left turn or passing another(slower) vehicle. Then of course you got these jokers who think they own the road and stay continually in the left lane no matter what. Biggest violation on the roadways is lack of courtesy. I rode with a group of guys out west on a hunting trip once and one of the guys that drove liked the left lane too much and the truckers that overtook us let him no in no short order where he belonged.

The CB chatter is rather funny at times. "Can you read? The sign says slower traffic keep right. Or maybe reading wasn't a requirement when you got your CDL"?

Billygee, same here in Texas, they spent over a billion dollars updating and adding more signs to no avail! Everybody still blocks the left lane and gets mad if you flash to pass. To top it off, the Judges decided that they don't want to see tickets for blocking the left lane, rather they want tickets for road rage when people flash to pass (got this from the mouth of four city cops, two sherrifs and three state troopers I know). They ended up pulling most of the signs down and replacing them with "No Trucks Left Lane"!!!#@$%!
