I have the opprounity to get a good deal on Goodyear wrangler AT extreme 315/70r17 tires ($170) each. How many peeps are running these tires now and how do you like them? These are a D load range tire 3195 max load per tire at 50psi. Should I get a different brand of tire? On a load range E? What do you guys think?

I asked the same question a while back when looking to jump to 315's. Most responses I got for the Goodyear A/T tire was it has a soft compound and would wear down quick w/ the heavy front ends or tow/hual applications (from people who had them before). I decided on the Toyo 325's (34. 9") even though it is "D" rated w/ 3,300lbs capacity. I had good luck w/ Toyo's in the past w/ wear.



There is always a heated debate on forums w/ D or E rated tires. So you will get a lot of different feedback on your question. I say if the price is within your budget then get them. Rotate them often and If they don't last or up to your expectation. Then next time you know not to purchase them.
 
Don't walk but run away from these tires. I have some and they stink. Soft flexy sidewalls. Difficult to balance. I don't expect them to last long. They look good, that's about it. Had a tire dealer tell me they weighted some Goodyear LT type tires recently and they weighted 8lbs. less than the same tire did 5-6 years ago. Same tire, more money, less rubber. My wife had some Wrangler STs on her Liberty from the factory and had three flat tires in 15K miles (just from driving on gravel roads). Now she has some BFGs. I will never own another Goodyear product. I'm thinking my next tire will either be Toyo Open Country 285/75/17 or Nittos 305/70/17 Grapplers. I have had good experience with BFGs T/As also.
 
I looked at them and heard the same thing. I went with the Cooper ATR. They look great and have a good tread.
 
The T/As. I have had good results with those on the 01. Got about 42,000 out of them driving on mountian paved roads and a lot of gravel roads. Right now I have a cheaper version of the T/As on the 01, General Grappler AT2s. They perform as good as the BFGs, but I don't think I going to get but, maybe, 30K out of them. The gravel is also nicking and chewing the tread a little more than the BFGs so I'm going back to those next on the 01. I will not ever go cheap on tires again. You get what you pay for. These big heavy trucks take good rubber.

Right now I'm leaning toward the 285 toyo's I'll just spring for the extra $20. 00 or whatever. There seems to be less than stellar reviews for the goodyears thus far. Thanks Guys and Gals!
 
I hope Good Years greed leads to their downfall. Having ALL their tires made in China and not lowering the price, not passing on at least some of their savings to their customers is GREED,
 
Sorry Matt400. The KOs are the tires I was speaking of.
Oh. . well that certainly explains your experience. The KO is BFG's premium all terrain tire where the Goodyear ST is the bottom of the line OEM fitment on the Liberty.

Nothing at all like the ST, not even in the same league. Its too bad Goodyear builds the ST at all but I suppose some find it acceptable for highway use.
 
My 03 3500 SRW Truck Came With Michelin LTX-AS LT265/70/R17 Load Range "E" Tires New. Truck Has 80k Miles And Tread Is Just Above Wear Guage. Most Miles In East Texas Running Empty W/40Psi Rear & 45Psi Front.

80Psi When Pulling 13k Fifth Wheel. Have Had Good Service Out Of These Tires But Don't Like Where They Come From. Also Will Cost $250. 00 + Tax To Replace

I do not care where Michelins are made as long as it is not in China. It puzzles me that nobody seems to mind tires made in Japan (remember Pearl Harbor??) but are bothered that Michelins are made in France. The French never shot at us or bombed us. It took me 50 years to buy a Japanese car so I understand someone not liking France. There are no better tires than Michelin, maybe some as good but I have had no bad experience with Michelin. Some guys like Cooper but I will never again buy one. What it comes down to is we do what we think is best at the time. As we gain experience we make better decisions. I am 79 and still learning. After all this time I just found out Trailer Only Tires (ST) are a SCAM. By now you have no doubt read it on here somewhere.
 
I have michlein's LTX A/T 265/75R16 on my 94. 140,000+ on them now and looking to replace them. Never a problem. Mostly highway driving with light loads. Looking at the A/S tire or M/S tire to get a little better wet road traction. Considering the Wrangler Silent Armor by Goodyear. Not sure if its quieter or not, but it is hard to leave michlein after the service I got on the other set.
 
Just replaced the Cooper Discovery tires that I put on exactly two years and 40K miles ago. Very poor guality tire. They just would not handle truck usage.



Did some research, and listend to folks and ended up putting a set of Toyo M55's on last week. There known to be tough tire, only made in E class 10 ply, M&S rated. This a no nonsense commercial duty tire.

The tread is a little agressive if you spend alot of time on paved roads in good weather. As they sing at higher speeds on the pavement.



For my needs and geographic location, and the fact 5 -6 months of the year driving is crappy. I am hoping these tires will give me good service.



As a second choice I was considering the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour, but I got talked out of getting the Toyo's last time around so I was bound to give them a shot this time. In the past I have had good luck with Goodyear and Goodrich, and the best tread life I ever got was from a set of Kelly Springfields.



For the gualiy of tire we need to handle the weight and power of these trucks, none of the tire choices are cheap.

I had always run the BFG AT KO's until this last set. I now have the Wrangler Silent Armor as pictured above. I have been running the 285 size on several trucks. The BFGs always held up well, but they are kind of expensive. I tried the GoodYears and so far have been very pleased with them. I know it isn't the specific tire you are asking about but GY is taking a little heat here;) I have run them cross country with huge loads on. I have taken the truck on the local jeep trails that are strewn with lots of sharp rocks not to mention lots of gravel road and snow driving. I like them and will probably buy them again. They are at least $20 a tire cheaper than a similar BFG, so there is some savings being passed on. I have also treid the MT-R from GY and found it to be a very good tire. Like someone else said, you need to get up into the "good" part of GY line-up to see the value.
