I posted this under 'Members Rigs Spotted - Michigan' - thought it might be something the whole community might ponder - since we all get around.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've seen a number of Hot Rod Cummins trucks over the years as an owner of one, none of the people have I had the chance to talk too. I also have a CB in my truck that rarely gets used. I'm thinking... ... if we had our own 'break channel' it might bring together some of us that pass and never speak.

Alot of us have CBs - it would be nice to know what channel to try if you see an antenna next to some stacks. I propose channel 30 - it's easy to remember and close to the middle.

Anyway if a Blue 01 passes you - try breaking on 30

10-4 there little buddy. This here is the Rubber Duck, come on... .

Was the dark of the moon on the 6th of June and Kenworth haulin' logs,
A cabover Pete with a reefer on and a Jimmy haulin' hogs...

Sorry, I couldn't help it. In all seriousness, I do think it is a good idea.
30 it is...

I know it brings back the 70's - with cell phones, Nextel, internet, GPS devises and all the rest of our data resources - the CB has been pushed into the background. Restructuring for the best - I too can remember the strange drawl everyone spoke and the BS jargon in it's heyday. It's a new day - and the CB still has an arena that it rules - the 10-20 mile radius - ship to ship.

As far as I know there is no protocol in place to facilitate contact between members. I think it would benefit us to have one.

C B radio is a good thing. When I drove Semi's in the beginning there were none that I knew of but around the early 70's they became popular. They were useful in an emergency (some good samaritan on a base station called the Fire Dept. and a load of 40,000 pounds of paper was saved, I had a tire fire) and when you saw someone you knew going in the opposite direction you could have a brief conversation. I will always have one in my Ram (Damn Ram) It sometimes saves you a 4 hour wait while an accident is cleaned up if you hear about it in time to exit and take another route. I am all for the Channel 30 idea. Hope it catches on.

I too run a c. b. . I don,t ever turn mine on around town, but when i road-trip it sets on 19. It has saved me many a coin by letting me know where the "bears" are. Randy:)

30 it is. Great Idea. Now I have a reason to put a CB in my truck.

Had one in my old 99 V10, just nobody to talk to. :)

I do now. :)

My CBs are in storage , but I have a hand held Ham , getting lic. soon , but I think this radio can tune to CB , Yaesu VX-7R , later I will add a tri band mobile with repeater .

The CB in my 74 is a 23 channel, but I should have a 40 w/SSB (upper and lower) kicking around somewhere that I got when I was in 8th grade. If I find it, I'll make sure its on #30

Sidenote for the completely bored: That was the year they dropped the need for a CB license. I actually filled out an application and was rejected because I was too young (not 18) for the actual license. But I sent it in anyway to see what would happen. When you sent in the application you were given a "temporary license" which for me was "KCA07607". "K", "your initials" and then your zipcode.

I just remembered back in the 60s when a CB in a Semi was uncommon the guys would replace the yellow center cab marker light with a green light to indicate there was a CB on board.

Well, I've been cruising around Nashville for the past few days with the old 29 on channel 30. Some dump truck outfit is running their operation on 30. Sorry, but I just can't ride around listening to those fellas. I've heard conversations ranging from Grandpa's John Deere to Mama's going through "the change" to one driver's toilet etiquette!
