Hey guys, flutter pedal yesterday and today, P1693 and P1689. Another infamous VP 44 on an '02. Ive got a friend who wants me to put on a Hot Rod VP. Nobody around here has one, and he's heard they're built slightly stronger and tend to last longer. Anybody have any input? I need to order one or the other tomorrow morning first thing. Thanks for the advice.

I have one from Industrial Injection. It's been on for 20K miles without an issue. It will add HP to a stock truck, advance pump timing, and is suppose to be built better than new OEM.

How is it better than oem? my original has 458,254kms or284745. 28k. Not to be smart, but my truck is a very early 98. 5 which is supposed to have a brass cylinder, and old type electronicsthats not known to last too long. The only thing I have done is move the l/p back by the tank. Still have the same lines and banjo bolts etc.

I have had a Hotrod VP44 for almost 40,000mi and have had relatively no problems with it. It has lasted no longer than any other IP I have had on the truck, but it has not shown any signs of failure yet.
All my other VP44s have not lasted longer than 44k. I am currently on VP44 #4.

It does have more power, and can continue to fuel long after the standard HO pump quits :)

You get the better OEM parts in Canada

I've been running one from Industrial Injection for a year & a half now. It's been flawless & offers a nice power boost. it felt like I put in larger injectors. It's a little hard to tell but it might be a little rougher on the bottom end but it fuels out at the top end very well.

1. Is the SO a better (lasts longer) pump than the HO?

2. Can you put an SO pump on an HO engine. Will the HO ECU talk to the SO pump?

Mike

SO, HO, and Hot Rod are different types of pump. the first two are stock and dont interchange the latter is an aftermarket for all VP trucks, but I believe STILL year specific?

I'm running a SO pump on my HO without any problems, runs fine and no codes. You wont like it on a stock truck though, you actually loose some power. It'll pay off when you start running bigger injectors and a performance module. I think the general idea is 150hp injectors are the biggest you can run with a HO pump, and 500hp is about the most a HO will support. If your not planning on making anymore than that, you'd probably be happier with a HO... . I've also heard that the HRVP's aren't really worth the extra cost.

1999 Dodge Ram with 198k miles & finally started acting up but no codes what so ever. No dead pedal, no 0216, nada. But it did go 198k trouble free. I've read a ton of stories of the 98. 5 & 99 beiing weak but I'm thinking NOT! JMHO FWIW.

My 98. 5 went 200,000 miles before the original injector pump went, now it is around 11,000 miles later (10 months) and my HRVP44 just kicked the bucket. Permanent dead pedal as of 10 minutes ago.

I love my HRVP44, it's a huge difference over the stock HO version. I put down 699. 7 rwhp uncorrected on Maddogs dyno in Edmonton on # 2 only. It pulls hard and has way more bottom end, however the the all mighty P-Pump is on the drawing board nowOo. .

If you're on the fence stick with an SO pump that has a new housing, new electronics and you'll be fine. Most pump remanufacturers have several grades of pumps that they supply. You'll always get what you pay for - pump may die on the 13 month of the 12 month warranty.

all pumps are interchangeable(sp?) put an h. o. 44 on my 99 after my hotrod44 fried many people put the s. o pumps on a h. o motor when adding big power cause the s. o pump is suppose to flow more fuel. i put the h. o. on mine and felt a little more power i never had mine when it was stock so i cant really say how much better it might have been

Just put a HRVP44 on a friends truck. . Love the way it runs. He has not driven the truck yet... Sweet addition. .
