WOW!!!

That would be a "shoe-horn" job. I remember the conversations about cramming an 8. 3L in the 2nd Generation trucks. If Cummins is having trouble achieving decent mileage with the 6. 7L, I can only imagine the MPG's on an 8L. I wonder if the "Torque Wars" are going to be replaced with the "MPG Wars". It seems both F and C guys are facing the same mileage predicament. As Diesel approaches $3. 50+ those old 12 valves are looking better and better every day.

Just my opinion.

8L engines all weigh at least 1,500 lbs more than a 6. 7L when you add in the extras..... cooling, inter cooling, size of transmissions... etc...

Even on the larger designs... . Dodge's 5500, Fords F550 etc an engine that size would be a waste of power... . Think about the weight and fuel economy and how some of the members on this board would cry to loose 2-3 MPG...

I own a 10L Cat in a larger truck that has a GVW of 56,000 lbs... . that truck does no better than 12 mpg empty or loaded with a tail wind... and much worse with a head wind...

Cumminz

The flat bed is built and we have the box aluminum out to the fab shop... I've got photos of the bed its self and should get those posted this week if time permits.

Has anyone seen or heard of an 8L cummins in the 09 DC trucks?

Doesn't seem to add up... they just introduced the new 6. 7L in 07. 5... this engine already meets 2010 emissions standards... wouldn't make good sense to change engines again.

What they will be doing is supplying a V6 and V8 for use in the 1500's and smaller vehicles...

No 8L. 6. 7 is ready for the '10 emissions, so itll be used for awhile. I have heard of larger Powerstroke (or in-house-built Ford engine) and a larger Duramax... but of course they dont meet '10 standards so...

When does thte next tier of emissions take place?

We had one tier go in at '07, and we will have another in '10, and when is the next one becoming active?

I didn't notice where you live but here in CT we've been as high as $3. 69 and the cheapest I can get it right now is for $3. 45 a gallon. To say I would like to see the mpgs higher is an understatement, it would certainly make it easier to swallow a $7000 premium for diesel. When i bought my truck in 2000 diesel was 35 cents cheaper a gallon than reg gas, the premium for the cummins was $3995, and with the 6 mpg more than the 5. 9 gas motor back then I could actually see aoperating savings on top of better performance. Now I pay 30 to 40 cent premium over regular and if I didn't need a diesel for towing and plowing performance I would definitely have a little 1500 and some sedan. Oh well at least I can write it all off come the end of the month.
