I just bought an 08 laramie mega cab. I didn't even know it had a tire pressure monitoring system. I just put 245/70r 19. 5's on. I had them at 100psi, the ride was so harsh, my teeth almost fell out on the highway. My stupid tire pressure monitor says the pressure is too low, and the warning bell always goes off and the light stays on, on the dash. I tried pushing the light load button (no change). I have since aired them down to 70 psi, and then to 55 psi. The light will not turn off on the dash. I like the features of the Laramie, but some of them are over complicated. I don't need a sensor to tell me when my tire pressure is low. Can you delete this crap??

Thanks,

Garry

Are your original valve stems installed in your current wheels? Typically Chrysler vehicles that have TPMS have sensors in the valve stems that transmit tire pressure info via a radio signal to one of the controllers in your truck. If you don't have them installed I would say that's your problem. I don't know if this is a feature the dealer can "delete" with a StarSCAN.

I didn't have my original valve stems on the new tires. I had no idea that I had a tire monitoring system until it was too late. It would be too expensive to put them in now. They charge almost $100 per tire to remount and balance the 19. 5 tires. Even if I did reinstall them, the info would be different. I had 4 tires, now I have 6. I converted my 08 3/4 ton Mega Cab to a long box dually. Hopefully you can delete this option at the dealer with a scan tool.

Thanks,

Garry

Garry... Unfortunately putting the original valve stems in may be your only option to turn off the light, your owners manual may tell you how to turn off the chime like it does for the seatbelt reminder. The dealer likely wouldn't disable the light even if they could for liability reasons, I imagine they would look at it the same way as if you asked for them to disable the SRS or ABS lights.

The controller for your truck is designed to communicate with 4 sensors, and therefore only cares about the pressure in the 4 tires that contain them. Adding the additional rear wheels should make no difference as the truck will not "know" they are there because it isn't programmed to look for them.

*The instrument cluster is a module, I doubt there is any way around it to disable the light. * I understand your cost dilemma but I don't think you have many options. Good luck and let us know if you find a way to disable it.

If it is the valve stems like you say. I wonder if I take a wheelbarrow wheel, drill 3 more holes in it. Mount the 4 valve stems in it. Air it up to 50 psi and mount it to the frame rails?? Might sound crazy? But maybe it could work?? What do you think?

Garry

:-laf That is funny, and clever, but I don't think it will work. I believe the sensors are actuated by the g-forces in a rotating wheel. You could mount the wheelbarrow tire like a training wheel, now that might work :D

I do not believe you or the dealer can disable it. After all, it is there to protect us from our own stupidity. I don't know about you, but I never realized you had to check and maintain the air pressure in the tires. Good thing the government with the help of the Ford Firestone fiasco is looking out for me!

The system is programable... I am sure the stock stems were left in, You need to take it to a Qualify tire shop with a Bit-writer, while your their check to see if they got Nitrogen air its awesome.

He already said he did not have the sensors in the new wheels

The tire sensors are a federal mandate for 08. The dealer tools can not disable it,but there are 2 settings from the factory, light load and normal.

The sensors do have to spin up to operate.

Mount two, and make them look like a lift axle:D

Sure is... the regular old atmoshpere is about 80% Nitrogen anyway! Why bother?

You never Increase or decrease, 60 psi can easily hit 75psi Mid-summer ,low as 45psi Mid-winter. at $250. 00+ per tire Constance tire PSI will differently increase life.

You can manipulate the sensors to what ever PSI You would like. Arrange transport ion to MN Bob4/4 and a demonstration will be arranged. ::-laf

I was under the impression that the 3500 DRW's were not equipped with TPMS. (I understand you went from a 2500 SRW to 3500 DRW long bed conversion). Maybe the VIN could me manipulated so as to allow the computer to think that it is indeed a DRW truck, if, in fact, the 2008 DRW's are not equipped with TPMS; just a thought. Maybe some of the techs that post here can contribute additionally.

I'd be more than happy to share my VIN with you, but my truck is an 07. 5 .
