What's wrong with the stock headlight?

You haven't noticed? I think the '03-'05 trucks have some of the worst lights I have seen on a vehicle since sealed beams. The high beams are hardly better than the sad low beams. Take a ride in an '06 or newer some time in the rural darkness, the newer lights are a huge improvement.

That said, even poor factory lights are probably better than aftermarket ones. Lighting is very vehicle specific, and they may be worse yet.

Thanks,

I guess if I want better headlites I would have to change the fenders and lites over to the later model ones. I'll have to look at some pictures to see if the 04 grill and bumper would work with them though.

I think it is a pretty major change. If I recall, the under structure has changed so even if you wanted to bolt on the newer fenders, I don't think it would work.

You can always do the Brite Box mod. I would also seek better bulbs. There are brighter, whiter ones out there. They don't last quite as long but do help illumination.

I have installed silver star bulbs and the other blue ones sylvania makes. It did help some, but not enough to be worth what I paid for them. I wish there was a third gen sport model so I could swap them in like on the second gen trucks. If anyone knows what all is involved in swapping the fenders and lights let me know. I have thought that it would be cool to round over the front of the fenders and install some peterbilt lights that attach to the sides of the grill. I know it would be way more work and there is not really enough room, but if it was possible it might look pretty good.

Pass on the blue ones period. That is just a coating on the bulb, it actually detracts from the actual lighting.

The lights on the 98. 5 were much better than they are on the 2007. 5. BHolm is right there isn't much difference between the High and Low beams. I have the BriteBox setup from Geno's with SilverStar bulbs and it helps but still not the lighting that should be on these trucks. Now it gets a bit better when the truck is leveled out with a load but I don't drive loaded that often. Maybe they could make the headlights adjust based on the levelness of the truck... :-laf

I use my fog lights with my low beams. They work fine for me.

It's certainly possible, I have a Volvo XC70 that does that. It has HID lights and high vs. low beam is controlled by moving the whole reflector assembly up or down. There are sensors on the axles somewhere that adjust the the level of the car. Sometimes when you hit a bump just right, you can see the lights try to follow a bit.

Anyway, back to the RAM lights, I agree, on my 2007 3500 the lights suck, I was thinking maybe it was an adjustment problem, but from what people sya on this forum, it sounds like they just suck period.

Now, if I could get an HID retrofit, that would be great! I really like 'em on the Volvo, tons of light just where you want it.

You can buy HID lights for the 06+ trucks on ebay for $300. 00, looked at them just the other day. Do a search for them, they should come up.

My '96 with fogged lenses are actually better than the 07. 5. The fog lights with the low beams work well on the 07. 5, the fog lights on the 96 are pretty poor. I have tried several different lamps for the 96 and have good luck and an improvement with them all. I can't remember what I am running currently. HID's look like alot of work to update to.

I had an idea to mount some GOOD round headlights into the grill. Sort of light the current mustangs driving/fog lights. Having 4 headlights should work pretty well with the trigger wire from the OEM lights going to a pair of solenoids so the lights draw straight fom the battery. If I could find some headlights from a local junkyard that have chrome bezels so that I could fit them into the grill and look lke a factory option. I don't know about legalities though. It would be a cheap way to go if it would work.

Thanks Ron, for the comments. Yes I use air bags to keep them aimed at the same height as empty. I am working on in cab controls with compressor and tank. oh ya, I almost forgot,a Nathan k3la train horn will be part of the same system. :-laf

So how many here use the "fog lights" when there is no fog around?

Have any of you given a thought as too how blinding those are to some one as they approach you when there is no fog and you have them on just so you can see better?

Now that I am driving a dinky rig I notice this every dang night. Sure you can see better but your blinding me to where I can hardly see the road to drive safely.#@$%!#@$%!

And yes I have them in my truck but only use them when needed as intended.

Rant off.

I'll use my fogs in the rain. Really helps on those dark roads. But thats it. Aftermarket lights are nice. I can see great with my hella's and lightforce lights, but, I can't use them for 90% of my driving. Why oh why couldn't they have just left some 7" round headlights in there. A set of e-codes in there and we'd be sitting pretty.
