My truck has the dreaded deat wobble with only 65000 miles on her.

I have had all ball joints put in, 1 tie rod, both anti sway bar links. I put on a single defiant steering stabilizer, defiant steering gear box shaft support.

Everything seems to be tight in the front end, I did notices some slop in the steering gear box though, like its worn out.

I have read on here that this can be caused by tires, i have the stock bfg ruggad terrains on still.

Where do u think i should go from here?

At that mileage you're probably due for tires. Install some new ones, same brand if you've been happy or perhaps Toyos. That might do it.

ive tried rotating tires and it doesn't help. Yes when i decide to get tires, im going to get toyo open county 285 75 17.

Are you lifted at all?? Does the alignment shop know it has DW. I had DW on my stock truck stock tires and the the guy I took it to said that he has worked on many and get get it right for me. So sometimes it is good to ask if they have done this type of work before...

There have been several reports on the different forums with 05 steering boxes wearing out. Bryan Howell, who owns DPP, has had his steering box on his 05 replaced twice under warranty. That is the direction I would look into.

Run the front tires with max pressure, replace front shocks and steering stabilizer, have a good shop do an alignment would be my 1st choices

JLT,

I had death wobble with 37" BFG A/T's. I now have Toyo OC M/T's and no more wobble. BTW if you would wanna try some younger stock tires I have a set, 1 with no miles, four with only 15k. I'd let them go for a good price. I'm over in Hinckley.

I 2nd the track bar, with all those other parts bad... the track bar is the weakest link... it's had to go before the other parts... it's hard to tell when it's bad, you really have to throw the steering wheel around and look for it to move , pop away from the mount and show the shaft of the stud... meaning the ball and socket are worn.

Shocks??

I will check into the track bar a little closer. I looked into it before by jacking it up from the frame and tried prying it back and forth and it seemed ok. What end of the track bar usually goes bad?

When i had my truck in at the dealer for ball joints, they did an alignment and it is with in specs, i saw the printout. Maybe it needs to be changed a little like the caster, so theres more. My truck is under extended warrently still, thats why the dealer did it.

I might take it in for the still loose steering gearbox and end play in my power steering pump shaft (i had the belt jump halfway off the ps pully).

I have or had future plans on putting on a lorenz leveling kit. I want to get the death wobble cured first though, because i think being higher might make it worse.

As for tires i have made up my mind in think on the toyo open country 285 75 17 and i think they are e rated.

the end in the frame, the ball joint end... oopppps I think us Gen 2 guys are soo use to the gen 2 track bar being a problem. . I just noticed that this is the gen 3 forum. . (I go to this post via the "new post" listings, not by drilling down through the forums).

So if it is your gen 3 we are talking about... you don't have a ball joint on the frame end. . just a solid eye / bushing and bolt like the axle end.

probably not a problem.

I just experienced the Death wobble in my '07. 5 Megacab. While I was on the interstate doing 75mph. When ever the truck would hit a good size bump in the road the front end would shake and bounce violently. My truck has just over 96,000 miles on it. It is going to the dealer on the 8th It still is under warranty for another 3,000+ miles.

please keep me posted on what they find wrong.
