I'm getting ready to install a Mag-Hytec diff cover and am wondering if this lube (recommended by Mag-Hytec) is worth the $12. 50/qt.

Luberication Engineers (LE) 607 is really good stuff, especailly if you tow heavy. you need to add friction modifyer if you have lim slip.

Wiredawg.

One of the hardest tests of a diff lube is the 9" Ford diff due to its high internal friction (steep hypoid angle). Add in Pro gears of softer 9310 steel and drag race starts at 6000+ rpm and you have a recipe to scuff the gears and get howling. I am using LE607 in this setup and the gears are completely quiet. I changed lube after break-in and several passes at the strip, no metal junk in the oil either.

Hi Jshumate. I don't know if I am an ignorant moron here or not but do you mean Amsoil? I have not heard of Almasol but that doesn't mean much. I use Amsoil and love it.

Nope Almasol has nothing to do with Amsoil. There was a lot of discussion about Lubrication Engineers when Kevin Dinwidde (sp?), who represented LE, was on here a few years ago. I was pretty convinced it was very good stuff except for the fact its cold pour point wasn't very low (thick in cold weather) since it wasn't synthetic. Other than that it supposedly stacked up very well against or was better than Amsoil's gear lubes. Never tried it for myself though.

175k hard miles on the diffs in my '03 since I started using LE 607... ( 197k total) and no problems, and you do not need a friction modifier additive in the 3 rd gen trucks.

I asked Mag-Hytec about the friction modifier and they said that it really helps even tho you're not supposed to need it - something about a clicking noise on turns without it and quiet with it.
