Need Help Making BioDiesel

Sorry, I couldn't find an appropriate forum to ask this question. What do you think about burning ULSD in a home heating system? I just bought my first Dodge and got the $2. 99/gal deal. I don't expect to use the yearly allotment, so I'm thinking about putting it my home tank.

Thanks!

I've burned both fresh diesel, old diesel, and old kerosene in an oil burning furnace I had for many years. Worked great on anything.

Go for it!

My Dads old house had an oil fired boiler many years ago. The burner required cleaning regularly as I remember. I would check your furnace requirements and determine if you need to mix the #2 with #1 or any additive to make sure the burner nozzle stays clean. This new technology is lightyears ahead of my experience, however, the furnace manufacturer would be the channel I would access for this question. Opinions dont pay for repairs to your furnace, sorry fellas, no Disrespect intended. GregH

Usually the only difference between diesel and heating oil is the color. The heating oil is dyed so you can't use it as a motor fuel. Other than that, your furnace and your truck eat from the same menu. I'm curious as to how you'd transfer the fuel from the truck to the oil tank at home.

It will burn just fine in the furnace. I have been using ULSD most of this season. The first time was because I called the local supplier and was quoted . 20/gal more than diesel was going for. I thought I would be done with the heater a long time ago but it has been snowing not far from here and our temps have been in the low 50s. I have a 50 gallon auxiliary tank in the bed I can pump it out of.

Last year I bought a 55 gallon drum of heating oil and the label said High Sulfur. I do not know if that was correct or not. They may have been using old labels but who knows.
