off the beaten path

I keep seeing a lot of people with the same reasons, so I'll try a few of the less-common motivating factors:

1) Lower concentrations of biofuels in diesel vs. gas means you're less likely to make a billion of the world's poorest starve to death from driving food prices up.

2) Diesel engines give us the only powerplant technology that has something for everyone: low total cost of ownership for those of us that like to save money, satisfying whistles & roars (and the "bite" to match the "bark") for those of us that appreciate power, longevity for those of us that get attached to their vehicles, safety for school-bus drivers and those of us that love our kids, and high mpg for those of us that don't like importing more oil than we have to.

3) Why would anyone choose a throttle over a turbo? Turbocharged engines whistle while they work. Throttled engines just plain suck (pun very much intended).

My three reasons for buying a diesel over a gasser:

1. When I start my truck in the morning I wake up the whole neighborhood.

2. People don't tailgate me, I tailgate them.

3. I enjoy driving through the local fast food drive through.

I've been told that I'm anti-social, but I prefer to think of myself as anti-gasser! :-laf:-laf:-laf

Because a Dyno Day is more fun with diesels than gassers, (smoke).

Because Dodge and Cummins sounds better than Brand X and Cummins.

And because I wanted an engine that, if needed, I could work on it myself for a lot of miles down the road.

I bought a diesel over a gasser because:

1. diesel fuel stinks as an smells bad

2. diesel exhaust smells just as bad

3. And makes so much noise that my neighbors use it As their alarm clock:-laf

I bought a diesel over a gasser because:

1-It can bypass fuel stations in a single bound.

2-It's just as strong as a locomotive.

3-It's faster then A speeding Chevy or Ford :-laf

1. Because I like it.
2. Because I can.
3. Because a girl that likes diesels, is automatically a very good girl. . ; )

Cause I've lost a couple of gas engines to towing.

Cause the Cummins just laughs it's way passing the struggling gassers.

Cause I get 4x the fuel mileage cruising on the beach, while checking out the sunbathing ladies. (we have 4 county 4x4 only parks that are on the beach, one of them is 7 miles long on the ocean)

Cause the sound makes the lady sunbathers all get up and look when the TDR comes chugging down the beach. (Did I mentioned that topless sun bathing is legal in Suffolk county parks).

Cause it can smell like French Fries with the right oil in the tank.

Cause it can make life just that bit better at times.

(Ok, I had a better closing line, but not sure it would pass thru the moderators).

Size, i want the wife and future babies to be safe.

Power, more bang for you buck

less mantinace to do. and she will last for ever!

reason for having a diesel

1. women love it#@$%!

2. it gets better mileage than the SUV we dumped:-laf

3. when da wifes rabbit runs out of gas, we load it into the bed and go get fuel as a family:D

Forgot to mention my runner-up:

reason #4) I read a MSDS once that said exposure to used oil from gas engines has been shown to cause cancer in mice, but oil from diesel engines didn't have the same effect.

i bought a diesel:

1. cause when i run out of the $100 bucks your going to give me, i can make my own fuel if i want. can't do that with gassers.

2. its the quietest vehicle i own. others set off alarms up and down the street, so even my neighbors love my truck.

3. i don't know another type of vehicle that will get 300k before a rebuild.

4. (just in case you don't like one of the above and need to throw it out) i couldn't belong to TDR. a little sucking up never hurts when trying to win money.

Simple (it can run on cooking oil)
Clean (the cooking oil burns without bad emissions)
Safe (the cooking oil spilled on your hands won't give you cancer and it leaves them silky smooth as well!)

Thanks to my oil suppliers: Hot Dog King, Empress of China, Soby's, Holiday Inn at Augusta, Soby's on the Side, Wing Zone and more to come...

So if you get your oil from Wing Zone rather than, say, McDonald's, does your truck smell like chicken rather than french fries? Either way, yummy!

1) Torque is addicting

2) MY 12-valve can run alternative fuels without modification

3) I can awake a cell-phone talking driver with a quick spool of the turbo (or lack thereof :-laf ) #@$%!

The list really goes on. I have a 11 yr old truck that is taken care of more than most new cars... . ;)

1. +/- 20% better fuel economy than gas. 2. The engines last much longer [are tougher] than gas engines especially when used hard. 3. Diesels make more torque at a lower RPM than gas so are much nicer to drive.

And The Winner Is ...

I was just sent the winning entry by one of the Geno's Garage staff members who agreed to judge this contest for me.

And the winner is . . . .
