Hey guys, i'm am back in the truck game. I just got a 1975 Dodge D-100 4x4. The truck is almost rust free. And someday it will house a 4bt.

Cool Almost anyone can buy a " new " truck. But then who wants a "new" truck anyway when you can drive a Classic. Shadrach

Sweet. I like the look of that year, too. I have two '75 parts trucks over in Michigan if you need anything (like two '75 parts trucks!) They're both 2wd, though.

Thank, I'll keep that in mind.

It does have one issue though, the trans slips. Later today I am going to tighten the bands to see if that helps.

guys:

can we tighten the bands on our first gens without dropping the pan? if so could somone give a quick how to or point me in the right direction. i get a little slip between first and second shift.

MEby:

sweet ride! love the front end! gonna make one hell of a truck with a ctd!

First Reverse is inside the pan. ( I think that is right) the external is second/third. I'd have to read my notes again and I'm reciting from memory. I only adjust once per year/every 3,000 miles. I cannot recite how to do it.

why not house a 6BT in it?

mo power, same price

I am thinking about doing that. I have a source for 6b cheaper than I can get 4b.

Another question for you guys. I adjusted the bands and the trans still slips, but not all the time. One minute its okay, I can park and take off again and then it doesnt work. Pointers?

my 93 was doing the same thing. it would slip so bad it wouldnt move. park it for a bit and it was fine again for a while. i did a filter and fluid change. that was 2 tanks of fuel ago. all seems normal now. is your transmission making any noise? mine was wineing.

I would probably point at the 33yr old POS 727 :p

I took the trans out and am embarking on a new adventure. I am going to rebuild the trans myself. Between having a good step-by-step manual and friend who is a mechanic I should be able to manage. Complete rebuild kit from Summit was only 235 dollars including a shift kit. Wish me luck.

Shoulda gone to SOP! Philip and TXS tore apart a 518, which is just a 727 w/ overdrive. They gave lotsa tech tips too. Like, check the input shaft thrust before taking the trans apart, then you know if you need to get thrust washers. And, put air pressure to the clutches and stuff before disassembling the trans. (after the VB is out) Shows if you have a bad seal before you disturb anything else. ;)

If you're going to put a Cummins in front of it, change the planetarys to all steel units. The aluminum ones suck!

Matt, it's not that hard, especially with a manual.

Good luck!
