Big thanks to Steve from AFE

The Silver 62 wheel is a 74mm wheel that is a very aggressive design... . Spoolup is about equal to the SPS62 but the backpressures are reduced. If I can answer any questions please give me a call.

Doug

finally got some clarity thank you DOUG! apparently the silver is all about flow as in top end only setups at least for vp trucks: pullers sled/dyno. In the case of a silver 62 there is no gain what so ever over a SPS unless there is HEAVY drug use in mind.

Lower drive pressure is part of the turbo qualities here with the Silver 62. Some of what has been said is also a part of making a great turbo. Rotating mass is a part of the puzzle but with the new and more aggressive turbine that is larger for more drive force for the compressor, faster turbine speeds are achieved. But thats not the only differences, the new designed turbine blades are much more aggressive and this also enhances spoolup and turbine speed. Spoolup is enhanced not by less rotational mass in this case but by a more agressive turbine size and design. The 62mm compressor is a very stable wheel for those that want to tow. The exhaust side gives you the quicker spool and faster turbine speed that allows for more performance. The lower drive pressure helps move air through the engine and also has a very positive effect on EGT's. The Silver Bullet has already proven it's worth as many have made great hp and very low 1/4 mile ET's. The Silver 62 is also a very agressive turbo with many of the same qualities as the Silver Bullet. But when performance towing is the goal, this turbo should be on your list.

I want to appologise to BILLVO as we did send him the wrong turbo. It was not done to misrepresent our product. It was a mistake that was made when we were franticaly trying to get ready for the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Things are always busy but the work to put one of those display booths at SEMA is alot. Silver 62 turbos will come with a polished compressor cover. Those that have tried to say our Super Phat Shaft turbos are the same as the Silver series turbos are not enformed and may have been missled by someone. As always we like leading the way.

But when performance towing is the goal, this turbo should be on your list.

Have you by chance done a comparison dyno run, one that will display difference in supplied boost levels at different engine RPM and load? For instance, if on a typical grade towing our 5er, if my HX-36 typically delivers 20 PSI at a given road speed/RPM, what might I see with your new turbo under the same conditions? I, for one, would like to see a graph of that.

I realize that specific illustration has too many variables for you to provide an exact reply - but you get the idea. Also, at least in my case, with the added Comp and Smarty, the max boost I usually see under load is about 34 PSI - what might be the max with your turbo under similar conditions?

I'm interested in perhaps SOME max boost increase, perhaps to about 40 PSI, and better/faster spoolup is even more attractive, but what I *don't* want, is to be forced into head/gasket mods to make use of it...

BE CARFUL

I would advise any one wanting to take a working turbo off a working truck to upgrade- to either reconsider in the first place or deal with HTT. Brady talked me into sending my PS in at some early date and Fed x confirmed its delivery on the 30th of NOV. To make a long story short after many heated phone calls about 3 to 1 calls placed to calls returned I have paid almost DOULBLE the quoted price am still waiting on the return of my turbo so don't make the same mistake I did make arangments to use your stocker or deal with a better bussiness

don't put yourself through this like me.

HMMmmm - at face value, this sure doesn't sound good...

finally got it later that day the box looked like it had been out in the rain for a week and then thrown into a pack of hungry dogs! Really it was soggy wet and had gnaw marks all over it but the turbo seems to work ok so far. Havent had it over 30psi yet cause I have to retourqe my head first.

Mine came unpolished

Maybe I should comment on this one. .

Short after I posted this Brett PM´d me and said the earlier ones was unpolished and offered me to polish it for me or give me a disscount for future purchases.

Thats what I call customerservice...

Brett! Sorry for being late with this. And thanks for the consideration!

rivercat,

Did you have your Phat Shaft upgraded to a Super Phat Shaft?

If yes, when you get some miles on it fill us (indepth if you have time) in on how the 2 compare. I am thinking of doing the same thing.

I just bought a used silver bullet... it says silver bullet on the dag, and the compressor housing is polished, but the turbine wheel has 10 blades. it's clipped, so I'm sure it flows more, but I'm concerned it won't spool up as well. I was under the impression the silver bullets had a larger wheel with more blades on it than the sps wheel. did they change turbine wheel designs at some time?

NM, just saw Doug's pic of the silver62 (how did I miss that!?) my wheel looks like that :)

The original silver bullet did have more blades but was smaller in size. The wheel we have went to is much more efficient, is larger in size, has a very aggresive blade trim in fact it is cutting edge technology from Borg Warner. It allows lower drive pressure and quicker spool. Turbine speed is excellent which is very important to make air. I would give more specifics but my competition reads this also. Thanks, Brady

I cant give a good comparison cause it wasn't a 3 hour swap, the truck was down for like 3 months intill I could get on it so I cant really remember how the old ps was. but my first high boost ride made me feel like the SPS lights quicker as in 0-10 psi I find it harder to lug on the lowend. but after 10psi its a little slower to 50

time to wake this one up and see what other people think about these turbos

as stated above I changed my PS 62/65 to a SPS 62/71 and in the process studded and O ringed on a . 20 over marine gasket.

I remember the PS lighting (10lbs) decently quick and then was a blur to 45lbs

the new setup seems lots more laggy but it cleared up the topend smoke with the box on 5. It just doesn't light nearly as fast and don't spool quick by the time it sloowly climbs to 50 Im at 2600 and have to let off due to front end wobble.
I just think something is off I can barely see 1400 on a long hill 5x4 even with the manifold now well wrapped with heat cloth. what is going on did the lower CR of the marine gasket make the difference?

Jetpilot?
anyone wana talk about there setup? mach 4s or even DDP 4s with a wiretap box anyone running a HTT turbo comparable or B1

wish I had dyno numbers to post...

you have a problem somewhere... on my 12 valves, my sps62 would smack 50psi like a freight train around 2000rpm

make sure your wastegate flappers aren't hanging on the housing

I know I have a 3rd gen, so we have different results.

My experience was... Upgraded from my stocker to an SPS62, managed to tow a little, it was great. Street manners had a very slight lag over stock, but nothing I could not live with, really, really liked the turbo.

My fondness was short lived, with just under 1200 miles on the charger, I started spewing oil out my exhaust and put a film of oil through all my boost hoses and intercooler.

I had a couple of heart to hearts with Brady at II, he sent me a new turbo, I sent him the old/new one. I thought this was cool, I was able to change them out on a Saturday with only a single day down time. (Brady later told me the thrust bushing on the compressor side went south??)

I forgot to mention, I also upgraded to a Silver62. This was a mistake on my part, It was laggy!

After several more mods(trying to get the Silver to spool), full 4" turbo back exhaust, intake horn, larger injectors, it still would not spool as quick as the SPS62. Towing was awful, darn near ruined my vacation, had to keep backing out of the throttle and constantly shifting down, just to make it over little humps on the interstate and keep my egt's under 1400. And I tried alot of different tunes. This is not a towing turbo, IMO.

Now, as a street turbo, empty truck... when the Silver would light, after fogging an intersection, OMG! It was a rocket, even on the freeway at 65mph, that turbo would light and just absolutely slingshot you down the road.

To this day, I miss it's screaming whine. This is my opinion/experience of these chargers.
