Front Axle

Is the front axle of a 4500 the same as a 3500 on a 4x4? I hope by next summer to get read of the one I have and replace it with a C&C, just dont know witch one yet.

The front end assembly of a 3500 C&C 4x4 appears to be identical to a 3500 4x4 pickup. The front end of a 4x2 3500 C&C (mine) is also identical except it has no axle shafts, differential, or driveshaft. In other words it has the housing and suspension of a 4x4 pickup. Many casual observers think my C&C has 4wd because they see the rounded bottom of the differential "pumpkin" in the center of the axle protruding from under the front end. A couple of friends have doubted me enough to get down on their hands and knees to look under the truck before they would accept it is only 2wd.

The front end of a 4500/5500 C&C look the same but have stiffer springs, larger brake discs, and 19. 5" wheels and tires. I don't know if the housing itself is the same.

I am sure the two 4x4 1 tons are the same I have worked on both of them. Haven't had a 4500 in the shop to look at. I think the 4500 has a 1k more rating in the front. Mabe it is just springs. We did just have a ford 550 in for rear seals on that Dana S130 rear axle, it's big stuff looked good. But it didn't have a two pice seal in it, thats a rip. I would bet nether does the Dana S110 in the dodge 4500. You got to like those square tube axles.

How do you put an axle
