Well I finally got feed up my headlights, they SUCK. They are the non sport headlights.

I now drive with my high beams on all the time and nobody flashes me!!! I have poloished my lights, changed the bulbs and they still suck!

I am thinking about the Sport light conversion but would like to see some pictures of aftermarket lights and get your opinions

So, Show me your headlights

Thanks

Brian

I feel ya'... ... ... I just replaced my bulbs with the Hella 55w series and it's better but still no good. $53. 00 bulbs!!! Our trucks are 01's... ..... you would think after over century of designing and building trucks that Dodge could give us headlights that will enable you to see the road. If it weren't for the Cummins in our trucks, these POS junkpiles would be worthless!! 600,000 mile motor in a 70,000 mile truck!!

I have no pictures but it is worth doing the sport headlight conversion. I think if you search you will find general consensus is that the oem sports are the best quality but also far and away the most expensive. Many have used the depo sport headlights found on ebay with some but really very few complaints. I couldnt justify triple the cost for oem vs the depot lights so I went with the depot lights and so far been very happy with them. I picked up my lights for right about 150 for the pair off ebay. I went with the Daniel Stern sport headlight harness (he will sell you the parts to make your own or he will make you a complete harness) Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply

. Also SUVlights makes a harness. I did upgrade my bulbs to the bulbs that Daniel Stern recommended and again been quite happy with them we will see how long they last but so far so good. On your 01 you will not need to trim any sheet metal to get them to fit as the buckets are already there unlike the pre sport model years. It is not a hard job at all maybe a couple hours if that depending on whether or not you need to drop the front bumper. I have an aftermarket front bumper and had no choice but to take it off. Others have just loosened their stock one or managed to do it without doing anything with the front bumper. The premade harnesses are plug and play. The lights themselves a few screws.

I must have the anomoly truck, since I think the stock headlights work fine. Well since I did the mod to have the low beams on when the high beams are on, anyway. I'm using the stock replacement bulbs. I did see a little brighter lighting when I installed relays for both high and low beams, but I did that mainly to keep the switch from overheating.

What is a 600,000 mile motor? The starter is a motor. FWIW, mine lasted over 700k. The Cummins is an ENGINE!! If you want to badmouth Dodge, feel free to spend your money on the half-assed D-Max or P-Stroke. Then you will really have something to whine about.

I will also vouch for the sport headlight conversion. The difference is amazing! Oo. Well worth it now that aftermarket lenses are available on ebay at a fraction of the cost of dealer lenses.

I may be wrong, but if you think your stock headlights work fine, you should really find someone that has done the headlight mod & see the difference. My stock headlights had covers over them since almost new and weren't yellowed or scratched up at all. I began to notice some of the posts about the sport conversion and decided that the lights really weren't that good compared to driving another vehicle. I did the sport headlight mod and could not believe my eyes. I can see SOOOO much better now. The two bulbs & the clear, non-faceted lens on the front is just the ticket. But, like always, to each his own.

Sounds like you knew what I was talking about! Ok... ... . Cummins engine- whatever! I did not bad mouth the Cummins 'engine' and with the money I have spent to maintain my Dodge, I certainly believe I earned my right to say what I said.

You're starting to resemble you old buddy HB with all the wisecracks:-laf:-laf:-laf

FWIW Alan I agree with you 100% with the Dodge being a 70,000mi truck. The fords and chevys have held up way better than the dodges. My entire interior is basically junk at this point. The dash is cracked to pieces, both plastic seat sides are hanging off, cup holder broke, o-**** handle pulled out on passengers side and the rear interior side panel clips broke off. Not to mention the front and rear diffs are one off dodge only units making them specialty parts.

Check to make sure you existing setup is getting 12 volts.

My 1995 2500 wasn't so I got the relay kit 35. 00 40. 00.

My dims are brighter than the brights use to be.

H. I. D Country, 10,000 Kelvin Deep Blue. Don'y even bother w/ incandescent bulbs. IMO. I have tried PIAA's top-of-the-line bulbs, twice. no comparison to HID's. Easy wiring. plug-and-play pretty much.

Hemi,

How much were your HID bulbs? Where did you get them? Sport or standard headlights? You seem happy with them, are they way better as far as brightness, or just look blue? Did you get just bulbs or different housing as well. Thanks!

I just ordered a set off of Ebay last night for $169. 95 shipped it included the headlights, markers, gaskets, and wiring harness. Not sure if they have bulbs or not but they have 6 sets left.

94-02 RAM SPORT CONVERSION HEADLAMP HEADLIGHTS KIT NEW - eBay (item 400172138606 end time Dec-10-10 12:05:11 PST)

Personally, I wouldn't use those harnesses. All it will do is run the amperage for 2 bulbs through your weak headlight switch instead of just one. I would recommend getting a wiring harness from either suvlights or daniel stern. Your headlight switch and stock wiring will thank you.
