Sean,

I am calling you out! LOL I was cruising around the photo gallery and found some AMAZING shots of your truck. Some were even featured in Diesel Power if memory serves.

As it is not proper forum etiquette to post up someones else's entire album, I am calling you out to do it! :D

We await!

Robert

Tug,

I know they are there. Thats the album I found. :D

I want Sean to give some history and share the pics. Was going to post the pics here and say look at this cool truck I found in the photo gallery, but thought he might like to post them. ;)

Man I like that truck! :)

Sorry, Bob.

It took me a while to figure out where they were and I thought I'd put one up to get some more voices behind your challenge.

No worries dude! I was thinking of doing the same thing. One or two shots on his behalf just gets everyone interested. :)

Now if Sean would just come along so he can stop tormenting me... . ;)

tugboatphil: Beauty personified! What make wheels do you have on it? They really dress her up.

He is going to post. So his PM to me said. However, if Sean does not post soon, I am going to post them for Sean cause I can't take this!!!:D

Helllllooooooo-o? Sean? :D

Wow! What a tremendous welcome to the TDR family (although I've been a member for years)!... I suppose I had to start posting at some point, since this thread called me out, and has apparently taken a life all its own. First, a humble thank you for all the comments from all the 1st Gen CC fans! I certainly don't have the best rig here, as I'm envious of many a TDR members' rigs, but thanks all the same! That helps motivate me to continue the evolvement of this unique truck which happens to be my DD as well.

Second, my apologies for my tardiness at replying to my own thread. I am an active duty Marine SSgt (20+ years, soon-to-retire), and have been quite busy lately at work, so I didn't even realize this thread was started for me until recently. I am normally a very prompt replier, as I'm a 100% feedback rated eBay buyer/seller, known for my excellent communication, and quick service.

I see that pics of my truck were requested numerous times in the thread above, but some favorites have been posted already [for me]. Here is the link to my photo gallery pics: Member Profile - Photo Gallery

tugboatphil put the same link above. I will be adding more pics there shortly, so stay tuned!

Ok, now to answer the questions I see above:

-tugboatphil: The wheels you asked about (from the first pic posted I'm assuming?) were M/T Classic Lock 16x8's.

-Now for Bob, (whose CC project has been inspirational to me as well) wanted the history of my truck... ok. . here goes:

I saw the truck for sale in Iowa on eBay back in 2004-05 while I was on deployment in Iraq (I grew up in a MOPAR family, so I always wanted Dodge CTD truck, but not the $50,000 new truck price ). The truck never sold, as the previous owner apparently wanted too much for it ($18,000+). I thought I'd take a shot, and contacted the seller directly to negotiate. We struck a deal, and he held the truck for me until I returned home, then I flew out to Iowa to drive it home to AZ.

I'm the 3rd owner. The truck started life as a '92 standard cab in Michigan. The 1st owner factory optioned it for snowplow duty for his plow business. It was well maintained (no body rust or driveline damage), then sold some years later to the 2nd owner in Iowa, who owns a limo and ambulance chassis fabrication business. During the winter, it continued plow duty until the owner decided to put his chassis fab expertise to use on the truck. Off came the standard cab. The chassis and driveline was streched 36" to accomodate an '85 CC. All of the '92 cab interior was transferred into the "new" cab. The original front bench seat became the rear seat. The front seats and center console were "donated" from a 2003 Chrysler T&C minivan. Some 2,000 miles of use after the conversion, the owner put new M/T wheels and tires on, and put it up for auction. Then I came along to retire it from plow duty. It was essentially "stock" when I bought it. The engine had no mods w/ only 70,000 mi :-laf on the odometer in 2005. It only came out to plow seasonally, and wasn't a DD then. That was the reason for the low miles. During my ownership, the truck appeared in Diesel Power and 8-Lug magazines, as well as the 2007 and 2008 TDR calendars. :D I did the following mods over the last few years as a tight budget and time allowed:

- Tinted glass

- Amsoiled all driveline fluids

- "Tweaked" the fuel pump up a bit for better performance

- ASA Modifieds air intake

- OEM cab roof lights

- Campershell

- HD front/rear bumpers from Brown's Welding in TX

- 6" Skyjacker lift

- Horton engine fan

- Prototype billet grile inserts from "Mr. Grille" in Norco, CA

- Traded M/T wheels/tires for 16. 5" "wagon wheels" with 36" Military OZ Hummer Tires

- EGR disc brakes (front)

- Rear EGR disc brake conversion kit bought, but not yet installed.

- Ramcharger aux rear fuel tank (not yet installed)

- Roof mount rear seat DVD player (for the kids of course!).

- Sold wheels and Hummer tires (looked cool, but ride on bias-ply tires was awful!! :{ )

- I missed the M/T wheels, so I put 18x10 M/T classic locks w/ 35x13. 5" M/T ATZ tires. (Much better ride than Hummer bias-ply!)

I was happy with that set up, but always wished it could be a DRW truck , as my family wants to eventually get a camper to travel in after I retire, to catch up on all the years in total I've been gone in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I love the looks and safety of towing w/ a properly built DRW truck. After aquiring a DRW bed from a local farmer, and much research (on TDR of course!) ;) later, I have decided to convert my truck to a true W350 dually. I then sold the M/T wheels/tires, and am now running on my OEM SRW wheels with new BF Goodrich A/T tires.

I do need some technical assistance though regarding the axle swap. I have available to me, a low mileage 1984 D350 DRW truck with its OEM Dana Spicer 4. 10 rear axle still in place. Is this a good choice for a direct swap? I could find little information online about this particular axle. I only know it was built from '81 to '85 (same as the CC's ironically), comes from the factory with OEM 16. 5"x 6. 75" wheels (to barely clear the massive drums!) and looks to be in great shape, with NO leaks from the pinion, the breather, or in the drums. The truck never towed, but carried a slide-in camper used as a mobile locksmith business. Would anyone else trust this axle? Or, would anyone who wants to convert their DRW to a SRW like to trade parts? I would include the $700 EGR rear disc brake conversion kit as well, if I could swap everything over from a DRW (axles, brakes, and all wheels, ect. ). My dream set up would be a '01. 5^ DANA 80 rear axle OEM disc brakes with 2nd Gen wheels, with the proper 9/16 lug studs to run them (like the truck shown below... ).

Lastly (for now), I am in need of a set of W350 front brake rotor assemblies with the DRW adapters to build it as a proper DRW in the front as well. My front axle is currently a Dana 60 w/ SRW hubs and EGR slotted rotors. Anyone wanna trade SRW for DRW hubs?

Anyone's assistance or tech info would be SO appreciated.

If the box is the original 92 one it won't have the bulge inside for adding a second tank. Dodge dropped the dual tanks in 81 and the rear bulge quit in 83. My CC is an 84 and I had to add both the bulge and the door to add a second tank. The Ramcharger tank is bigger than the front tank. This truck as well as my 82 Club Cab that I added a second tank to isn't a diesel but I had to remove the fuel filter with the little return line and go to the older straight through design. The first trip out with the 82 I ran off the rear tank first and the return pumped the fuel into an already full front tank. When I stopped for a rest after traveling down the highway there was fuel everywhere. It didn't take me long to figure out what had happened and for the rest of the trip I used up the front tank first. When we added the RC tank to my buddies 93 CTD we used an electric fuel pump with a toggle switch and when the gauge reads full you just flip the switch. This gives you a reserve left in the rear tank in case you forget to fill up :) Shadrach

Well, first off thanks for jumping on here to do your first posts! Welcome to the TDR web boards!:D

Lets comment on a few things in order... .

No need to worry on the reply. I had a feeling you were busy with your hands full. While I am on the subject, thanks for doing what you do to help ensure what we call the free world, stays that way. By what you mentioned, you have done beyond your part with what sounds like several tours.

As for your truck, too cool. I did not know until you said it how low the mileage was! Wow! That is great!Oo.

For the DRW, I agree. The one thing I do love on the crew cabs (even more so on the 4x4 ones) is a drw. As for your question on the 84 D350, I personally would not. My guess is it will be a Dana 60 (although I am taking a guess). When it comes to the power of these motors, especially if you plan on adding some juice to it at somepoint, the rear axles can take their toll. If I were in your shoes, I would get a Dana 80 with disks. You can find many in that $500-1500 range and you will find much info on the install of it here on the site. Although a Dana 70 can be found cheaper, I am a firm believer in if you do something and are willing to go through the hassle of doing it, go maximum overkill. This way if there was to be an issue, it is less likely to happen as you went stronger in the first place. Any way you go, I would recommend doing at minimum a bearning replacement before you put it in. Never know what others have done to that diff before you got it. Last thing you want is to pull out your good D70, go camping and loose a bearing due to past neglect. Pull it apart on a bench while it is easy.

As for swapping front hubs, my truck was originally a srw truck as well. After many months of research on here (if you do a search under my name you will find many threads... . was back in 04/05 if you are looking for it) and found it much easier to just get a complete front end and sell off the srw front end.

If you are asking where the heck you find these parts, look here: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market. I have found this site to be the best source for parts yet. Not always the cheapest compared to a local craigslist listing, but at least you can find it!

The Ramcharger tank is bigger than the front tank. I also had to add the second filler neck bulge and door.

As for tanks, I went with a stock Ramcharger pump in the Ramcharger tank and also pump it to the main tank. Dont want any issues with it overflowing like what you mentioned! I actually have pics somewhere as my original design was 3, 6 way vales so return, feed, and FASS would work as two live tanks. Was SOOOOO complicated I tore it apart and went this way.

Thanks for the great info so far! As for the aux Ramcharger fuel tank issue, I "surgically" removed an inner fuel filler bulge on a 70's model Ram in a junk yard. It was interesting to note that the truck had a front and rear bulge in the bed, but only 1 fuel filler door at the front of the bed. Optional 2nd tank? I plan on plumbing the aux tank as a true aux tank that doesn't pump into the front tank. A company called Stoneridge Stoneridge - Control Devices They make 6 port motor driven valves controlled by a two way "MAIN/AUX" switch, much like OEM equipped dual tank trucks. Once switched to "AUX", the lift pump will then draw from the aux tank the same way it would from the front tank. That will also allow the OEM fuel gauge to switch between both tanks, so you don't need two separate fuel gauges.

I had used the Pollak valves as well. That is where I started. I ended up abandoning that direction though as I run a FASS fuel system. Due to the constant recirculating fuel flow, I was unable to use the Pollak style. I calculated that the FASS system would need twice the flow of the valve to do it's thing. Had I had the choice, I would have liked to keep it true dual tanks. Always better in the event you melt a giant hole in a tank or something! ;)

As for the tank buldge, all the trucks from the 70s had thr inner bulge. It was standard to the box interior floor pan stamping. On the outside they would only add the door if it was ordered.
