Was crawling around under the truck today just doing my every couple of month look see, and noticed that I was having alittle more weeping from the oil pan gasket/bolts then usual.

So I figured I'll re-torque em for the first time in 115K. WHAT A BS PAIN IN THE REAR END JOB THAT IS, LOL. #@$%! even though it only took 20 minutes and as about as straight forward job as there is on these trucks.

It would be much easier with the truck on a lift but on the back in the drive is not fun. one torque wrench, three different length extensions and a univeral plus a bunch of sliding back and forth/side to side (i'm too barrel chested to fit under there on my creeper with extensions etc, LOL) to get the hit the torque pattern right, LOL

You wouldnt think that a job like this would be so difficult or painfull (big ol scatch on the arm from who knows what and splitting headache for some reason).

Sorry just needed to vent, LOL

yep hit my head all the time on my control arms and axle. my trucks lifted and I can scrap under the axle barely. when I did the rebuild on the motor I put blue loc-tite on them hope this helps because before I was re-tq them every 30k miles. and also not to mention all of the dust and crud that falls on ya when your down there.

I generally make it a point to pressure wash the engine and underside any time I need to do work like that.

That's what Joe Donnely calls "Getting up close and personal" with your truck. :-laf bg

You have to be careful when you do this also so you do not over-torque the pan bolts and push out the gasket. If you think re-torquing the pan was a PIA push tha gasket out and then have to do a oil pan gasket swap and you will see what a real PIA truely is. trust me on this one.
