Hello. I am considering replacing the factory transfer pump (failing again for the second time) with a FASS system. I found one that will plug right in and is a kit, to retrofit/replace the factory pump. It ain't cheap, so I wanted to know yall's opinion. This is on my '03 and I run 50% filtered waste cooking oil/50% diesel blend. Thanks for any information or comments!

You don't want the 95 series filters, they don't meet the specs for your common rail unless you buy an adapter from FASS.

Look at the FASS Platinum.

What is wrong with the 95 filters? I am curious, as I got the Titanium 95 from Genos and it came with the Donaldson filters.

Thanks,

Larry

The original 95 filters offered a max filtration rating of 10um absolute, 5um at 83% (stock on a HPCR is 7um absolute), and f/w separation of 50% free and 0% emulsified at 20 GPH! (stock is 98% free/95% emulsified).

If you get one of the newer 95 series filter setups FASS has an adapter to put a Donaldson P553203 in place of the filter (which is indicated by dual f/w sep drains).

The 95 series can be updated, so it's not a total loss. . but why get a Titanium pump which costs more than the Platinum which has the same ratings... unless you plan to use the coolant fuel heater.

I have installed dozens of the FASS systems, excellent products. I would go with the largest filtration I could, using cooking oil as fuel.

Thanks for the opinions so far... . Got a couple more questions.

So, this one I have shown in the link has coolant fuel heating? That could be a GREAT thing for running the cooking oil blend. Does the "Platinum" one have that also? Anyone have a link to it? I would like to buy from an e-bay seller if possible and I want one ready to install and run with as few modifications as possible.

Only the HD and Titanium have the fuel heating option.

All you have to do is plumb coolant to it. Take coolant from the head and "T" it into the heater core return line.

As for filters on the Titainum if you run a Baldwin BF1275 on the f/w sep side and a Donaldson P553203 on the pressure side (with the adapter) your fine.

Cooking oil will gum up filters fast, and injectors, piston rings, etc. Even if you transesterify, the oil is not a great idea on Third Gen engines.

I have been running a 50% blend of cooking oil for years with no problems.

So, if I get this kit I linked to, plus the adapter to run the longer filters, I will be ok? I need to get this thing going soon. I tried rigging an inline NAPA pump to boost it to get by, but it did not help at all.

Fass pumps rule

dieselnut59

go with the 150/95 pump

150 filters the big ones and the 95 gph gear I think its called the hd model

heat the base with coolent from the motor also buy one or two elec heaters from fass this will get the vegoil hot . Heat the tank if you want.

trust me I have been there

fass

thats the small filter

heres the one you should get

FASS Heavy Duty Dodge Cummins

also no sales tax in montana thats money in your pocket

make sure its for your truck this one is for a 1998. 5 to 2004

95gph = small gear in pump housing this will make it pump the veg oil better 150 gph will work the motor will be at max amps doing it .

I have bought 10 of these and have had zero issues with the fass units a better rubber mount makes these units the best thing out there.

fass install

Hello Dieselnut

When you install the new Fass Pump you might want to do one more install with the pump .

Every pump that I have done we took the -6 inlet and upsized it to -8 this means changing the diptube to the bigger size, dodge uses the same tank sending unit for both Gas and Diesel this means a small . 250 or less id on the fitting casted in the unit. this is a big problem for all dodge/cummins owners.

the last one I did we used a -8 bulkhead fitting and a pushlock hose fitting in the tank cut it longer then needed and just laid it on the bottom it worked great zero problems also the return was plumbed in to the tank using a -6 bulkhead fitting . this is for filling the tank without stoping the engine this happens all the time in montana winters .

fass units come with -6 or 3/8 hose the pumps have 1/2 npt threads this makes for an easy change over.

the pump will run better with no Cavitation in the fuel pump also the truck will run better.

also if you want this would be a great time to heat the pump and fuel tank.

good luck

Cj Hall, I'm looking at this pump also, but have a couple of questions. Will this pump work with an after-market fuel tank? I replaced the OE 35 gallon tank with a 56 gallon tank from Transfer-Flow. Can I keep the OE fuel lines and still have the fuel go through the filter canister for added filtration? Would thus still work for cold starts in our -0 degree weather?
