Seems like I read somewhere that certain 06 models were having issues running the Smarty Jr?

Does anybody know what the issues were? Which trucks were affected? If it has been resolved?

The Smarty seems to be pretty popular, is there anything better...

The truck has no other mods...

I have an 06 and Smarty Jr. No issues here. It really wakes the truck up nicely. I keep it on the economy setting most of the time just so it runs a little cooler and for fuel economy. I don't like the smoke on the towing setting so that only gets used when towing. Easy to use, a pain in the but the first time you have to download new software, but overall a great product. If you want "safe" usable power, this will be all you will ever need.

I see your truck has already had the trans. out of it... . How do you think the stock trans. /converter would hold up with the Jr. in towing conditions??

Which happened first for you, the trans. or the Jr?

I did the trans first. I lost 2nd gear towing at 50k and Dodge did a bandaid repair under warranty at that time. I redid the transmission when I bought the new trailer because of the increased weight. I did not want to get stranded anywhere and with 16-18k, there really is no limping it home. Many people have put a Smarty Jr. on from day 1 and have never experienced a problem. Others have just done a TC and VB replacement for added safety, it really just depends on what you plan on doing with your truck and your driving style. From posts here, just getting a Georend (or other quality) rebuild will make it feel like a whole new truck and motor even before you add power. My transmission would have given up the ghost in another 10k miles according to the wear in there. I had no issues before the rebuild and I will only give it the pedal when locked up. I do believe that my experience with the 48re is atypical because that trans was taken care of from day 1 with fluid changes every 15k, little towing, no hot rodding or boosted launches and I still had an early failure. Most are lasting a long time at stock or slightly above stock levels with proper care.

The only reason that I have not already "Georend" my 48RE is that I am holding out hope that somebody will come out with a kit to install a 68re or Aisin into the 5. 9L CR trucks. .

If its starts to give up the ghost, I WILL pull it and send it off to Georend for building. . but until then, i'm hoping. .

Other than the occasional Chrysler update that Smarty has adjust for I have not heard of any issues with them on 06 trucks, or any trucks for that matter.

Wingate, thanks for asking about this. It looks like I can finally buy my Smarty Jr. next month. I only have 61,xxx miles on my '06. I ordered it just how I wanted from the dealer. No towing and no hot rodding. I'm hoping my stock transmission will hold up as it normally would. However good that is!?

Thanks to all those who responded. This was good info for me too.

maybe Im thinking of something else... I just thought I heard of some of the later build 06 trucks having some issues with the Smarty Jrs... Maybe it was just a bad dream. .

I run the Samrty Jr on my 2006 truck, I have had no problems using it whatsoever. I can get a little too much smoke on #2 and #3, but it is manageable with the go pedal, if I put the pedal to it, smokes like a freight train . . I really don't like all the smoke, but I do like the lower egt's and better fuel mileage.

I run the Smarty Jr. on my '06 without any problems. I think maybe you are confusing it with the TST Powermax CR which had problems with the later '06 trucks.

2006 3500 Big Horn DRW Auto QC Silver, 4x4, Billet single disk TC, Transgo, lots of billet parts, PacBrake, Max-Brake, Smarty jr. , Quad boost fooler, FASS 150/150, gauges.
