In PARK position press and activate the cruise control ON button on the steering wheel then press the ACCELERATE button on the cruise control to bump engine speed up to the desired high idle rpm. You will be able to idle it up to a maximum of 1500 rpm.

Harvey is correct, if the idle up feature has been enabled by your dealer. Otherwise, if you let it idle, it will idle up on its own after a short period depending on ambient temperature.

H&S tuners will allow you to enable the fast idle (auto trans only iirc), otherwise if you have a good relationship with your dealer they should be able to.

The auto fast idle works as follows.

~32° and below the rpms will increase to 1,000 after 2 minutes.
~15° and below the rpms will increase to 1,000 as soon as you start the truck.

Based on where the ECM reads the temp block heater operation may not allow these to kick in.

The user controlled fast idle is coming from the factory pre-enbled on the 6. 7's for quite some time now, thank goodness I don't live where it is cold enough for the auto system to kick in very often.

I don't remember exactly when they started coming through already enabled but it has been a while... ... ... ... .

Thanks for the replies! I guess I need to go visit the dealer and see about getting the fast idle enabled on my truck. .

high idle feature

I just took mine in to have this feature turned on. They couldn't get it to work, well we found out that on a m/t I need a clutch interlock switch. It already has one or you couldn't start the truck without pushing in the clutch. Long story short 538. 00 to have it installed, yea I don't think so. does any one know how to bypass this? oh yea as far as the auto trans it is like 65. 00 to enable it.

good luck

On my '06 it is as follows. .

In PARK

Press CRUISE ON

Press SET

That brings it to 1000 rpms, then press ACCELERATE in increments for speeds up to 1500 rpms.

Press DECELERATE in increments to slow it back down.

The SET is very important, I know that because I took my then brandy new '06 back to the dealer to get the high idle enabled as I couldn't make it work.

Come to find out I was not pushing the SET button, I felt a little bit stupid... .

Oh well... . works now.

Mike. :)

Do a search, there were some threads a while back regarding bypassing the clutch switch for high idle.

But beware, you are bypassing a pretty important safety system. I would prefer to see you use a cheaper switch rather than defeat the system.

I got it enabled at the dealership today while I waited, 30 minutes no charge, and I didnt buy the truck there!!

If you had filled in your signature line with your truck information someone could have told you the fast idle feature is not available on a manual transmission truck without modification.

Tried to do the fast idle feature on the cruise control. didnt work. . does it need to be activated? I did the steps to turn on the CC . . but it don't work. . It does do it by itself as described at top. . does it need to go to the dealer to be turned on?

On an 07. 5-09 6. 7 with a manual, there is a little green wire up behind the pedals that has tape wrapped around the end. All you need to do is add some length of wire to that, ground it, and voila you have the adjustable high idle if it's enabled in the ECM.

2010MY and later automatics have the option enabled from the factory. 2010MY and later manual trans cannot have it enabled, as it isn't in the ECM as an option.

My understanding is that all ISB6. 7 engines have the fast idle feature enabled when shipped. I don't think I asked my dealer to enable mine as I did on the previous '06.

This is true of C&C trucks, but it has to be enabled on 3rd gens.

Mine does it automatically on a cold morning. This was the first winter morning we've had this year and at 22 degrees, the truck fired right up and about a minute later it kicked into high idle all by itself!

All Common Rails automatically idle up to 1000rpm when the ECM senses a certain temperature.

The one being discussed here is user-adjustable high idle (or PTO idle) using the cruise control buttons. It's adjustable from 11-1500rpm. There are two different high idles, kinda confusing I know.
