How does the EGR system work on the '07 5. 9 engines?

I see ads in magazines for EGR "block-off" kits for some model years, but not for the late 5. 9's.

To my knowledge the 07 5. 9 doesn't have an EGR, at least mine doesn't. Remember a lot of 07s have the 6. 7 and they have EGRs

It's a part of the cam, an internal egr basically that opens the exahust briefly
On the intake stroke to suck exahust back in, only way to stop it is to replace the cam

The 5. 9's have an internal engineered EGR where the 6. 7's have an external EGR control. The external types can be blocked, the internal type requires parts and injection event changes.

The late 5. 9's used four things to not need an external EGR. The cam/turbo/pistons/timing were all used in conjunction to hinder exhaust flow and reduce peak pressure. The cam is the biggest piece, as it has the longest intake duration and shortest exhaust duration of any cam put in a Ram with a CTD. AFIK there is not any overlap from intake/exhaust, just a short exhaust duration and higher exhaust backpressure (turbo) that keeps exhaust in the cylinder.

I believe I read that the Smarty programs from 2006+ eliminated the 3rd injection event in the '04. 5-'07 5. 9's.

Regardless,my oil's black before leaving the driveway after a change. :)

Blackstone analysis continues to look great @ 5K intervals. Hard to believe looking at the oil.

I have done a cam change, and a turbo change, run a Smarty Jr and still have black oil before there is 2 minutes on it.

I know you all hate it when I say/do this, but this is what my oil looks like after 27,600 miles on the same oil using Amsoil AME 15w-40, a single Amsoil EaO80 and no bypass. My oil analysis reports that soot is <. 1%. I have had the same results the past three oil changes using this OCI method. :D

you most likely have a 04. 4 the 04. 5 has the in-cylinder egr. you will cause excessive wear if you tried that on a 04. 5. ah64id a 50 hp nozzle change helps the mpg and oil more than what we were expecting, give it a try

I want to, but can't justify the $$ right now. I already have more power than I need. But at the first hint of injector issues they are getting replaced with 50's.

Thanks.

I have been thinking..... always a dangerous thing.

Industrial Injection and DDP seem to be the ones that keep coming onto my radar.

I'm holding off until I get to May Madness. Perhaps there will be some deals to be had there.

UDC will have it as well. I was thinking 2008 for some reason, but regcabguy was correct with 2006.

I have turned off the late injection event in all my softwares since late 2005 /
early 2006. The late injection event is OFF by default in all my softwares since then. 'Nough said? OK, gotta admit, in a couple SW releases I had forgotten to turn it off. I guess nobody really noticed it.
