Compare your door sticker GCWR to what you wanted in a CGWR. Then, you have a great argument point with your dealer. Otherwise, if the GCWR is the same as before, it becomes a different issue... .

GCWR is not on the door sticker, just GAWR and GVWR.

From looking at your window sticker, you have the 4. 10 ratio. The 3. 73 is listed as the standard ratio with the 68 RFE transmission. That does not mean that your truck has 3. 73, merely that they are standard. If in fact you paid extra for the max tow package and didn't get the 4. 10 ratio as indicated, that's another issue. I would do a physical check to see what ratio the truck really has. I'm going to wager it has the 4. 10's, and I'm not a betting person.

From the RPMs and road speeds cited earlier, the truck has 3. 73s since those gears would produce 1833 RPM @ 75 MPH as the OP stated (1800 RPM). 4. 10s would yield 2015 RPM @ 75 MPH.

Curtis,

I thought the same thing from reading his msrp sticker but the rpm v. road speed correlation he reported suggests 3. 73.

No way I would have driven the truck off the lot unless I was damn sure it had the 4. 10 gears that I asked for. May be wrong but, be a tough time getting them to rectify the situation now that you have taken delivery of the vehicle.

If it were me I would just live with it, your a 4x4, replacing both axles is a big event, your somewhere in the GCVW of 20000 pounds, your located in the mid part of the country, sort of flat, I would prefer 410, but I think your fine, go load it up and see how it feels, things just happen

By the way, the truck is beautiful!:) I love my '98, but I have rode in and hauled with the new rams and there truly is no comparison between the two. I would be proud to own a rig like yours. Good luck with your issue, hopefully they come to their senses and are willing to work with you.

If that's the case, then it would appear that a 3. 73 axle was installed by mistake. If that's so, I wonder if the front axle is also a 3. 73, or if it's a 4. 10 like it should be. This doesn't look like a situation where 3. 73 became the default ratio with the Max Tow package.

I was thinking of pulling the diff covers to change fluid to check for sure, but why should I change out the fluid for them? Big waste of money. If I wanted to be my own warranty station, I would have kept my 2006.

I have the 3. 73 in my 03 HO and I have never had no lack powder. When I leave home my rig weight is 23. 000 and it is that way except for the fuel burnt. I have been all over out west where there is some long pulls and step ones. So with the extra HP you should be good to go any where. GOOD LUCK

I think the 4. 10s are your best choice, as well, but I also think that the best you can hope for is a ring and pinion swap.
BTW, as an Arctic Cat dealer, I am diggin' that trailer!!!

Lawdog, have you had any communication with the factory reps? If it was confirmed by Star as you posted, then you should of heard from the reps. As in my case, it took about a week to get the confirmation that Dodge wasn't going to honor the order as turned in.

The only lack of power I have noticed, is when pulling heavy and fighting small rolling hills at the 55MPH speed limit. But when at 2000 RPM at 70 MPH I hardly notice them. 65 MPH might cause me to downshift once in a while, but at 55 I hate it. The positive thing about the 4:10 when pulling heavy would be better fuel milage due to the less effort for CTD to pull the load. But the negative side to it is the lessor fuel MPG when empty. So as previously posted 50/50 use would cancel out that theory. You should calculate your fuel usage vrs cost, if Dodge doesn't honor the order, the cost is a lot just for one axle but you would have to double that as a 4X4.

No need to pull the covers. Jack up one wheel and mark the DS. See how many revolutions the wheel makes to make 4. 1 turns of the DS. If it's two revolutions, you have the 4. 10. If it takes about 2-1/4 turns, you have 3. 73's- at least in that axle.

My 2006 had the 3. 73 as well It ran best at 2000-2100 pulling the hills best at that range, which is why i speced the 4. 10 because the 68RE trans has a lower overdrive . 62 instead of . 69 i believe the 48RE trans has. so RPM would be simmilar with the new one with 4. 10 and the old with 3. 73

Thanks

Our shop is in Wickenburg, AZ. We sell ATV/Prowler/Wildcat. No sled business here, but I am a sled-head from waaaaay back!!! That's a great in-flight photo. Sleds sure have come a long way. My first new sled was a Homelite! Hope your daughter whoops up on 'em.
