Interesting Arcticle on Micro Hole EDM for Diesel Engines

Picture Of The Week......

So it seems like all the truck stops are nit picking for every little extra charge they can get away with. I have seen the Diesel price posted and then flash to another price which I understand is cash or credit price. The gas price next to it does not flash. In the great age of the magic word "Racist" isn't the double standard for Diesel being prejudice when gasoline is a fixed price ?. So what's next at these places, a toll booth when you enter the property ?, a parking meter by the pump while your filling up ?, a usage meter at the urinal or stool ?. Comments and your thoughts on what I think is Bullsh**. I have been getting fuel at local stations as the truck stops which use to be less per gallon have gone the other way now but it still pisse* me off with the double price on Diesel and a single on Gasoline.

that has been the case for yrs... they always are more expensive... especially here in Vegas... . I don't know how the truck industry puts up with it... . when you can go down the street and get it 5-10 cents cheaper in a non truck stop

I live about 20 miles from a major freeway. There are 3 exits in a row off the freeway with major truck stops. For years theyve always been very competitive on their fuel prices and theyve also been cheaper than local stations. Within the last few months the roles have somehow reversed. It doesnt make sense to me, the big stations should be able to purchase the fuel cheaper because they buy in such large quantities, its a crock that theyre charging more than the mom and pop stations in my comunity

The big fleets have purchase agreements with the major truckstop chains. The fleets have contract price based on volume which is below the published pump price and the fuel purchases are directly withdrawn from the trucking company's bank account on a daily basis. It's all done on the computer... no checks, no check "float" time, no credit card fees, and no "the check is in the mail" excuses.

On other thing to remember is the cleanliness of the fuel. Big truck stops make their living selling fuel and other items to truckers. If they put out a load of bad fuel, the word will spread as fast as CB's will allow. I would think they maintain their filters and their tanks better than the mom and pops. Can you imagine the cost of insurance claims for a truck stop if they had 10,000 gallons of bad fuel? Not only the cost of the damage to the trucks, but also the lost time of the loads, penalties from fleets, etc.

Having said all that, I'm sure they are making money too. I think there is always a trade-off in quality versus price; just sometimes we don't see it... ...

This is the charge that banks and credit card processing companies charge when you use your credit card. It's usually around 3-4%. I appreciate the fact that they're giving you a chance to pay cash and save the money instead of figuring it into the price like they do the gas. You don't have the choice on the gas, you pay the credit card charge whether you pay with cash or not.

Better get used to it. Most businesses are beginning to pass the 3-4% on to you if you use a credit card or if you use a debit card as credit. Have you noticed that your bank gives you credit if you use your debit card as credit? That's because (due to the new credit card laws and regulations the Obama administration has passed) the merchant has to pay the 3-4%. If you use it as debit, the bank cannot charge the merchant for it.

My credit union "awarded" me $14. 50 for using my debit card as credit last month. They've awarded me $62. 47 since May 1st when they started this. Now, do you think they're just giving away money? Somebody's paying for that $14. 50. Guess who? The merchant, and he's wising up and he's going to pass it on to you.

This, by the way, is a perfect example of what happens when you raise taxes or fees at the corporate level. It doesn't matter how much you raise it, the bottom line is the consumer, YOU, is going to end up paying for it.

Sorry, getting down from the soap box now... .....

I do not like this either but; I am willing to pay the credit price for diesel at the truck stops. The main reason is I cannot get my truck and camper into most of the mom and pop stations when I travel. I also do not like to carry a lot of cash when traveling. My fuel bill alone this last two weeks was $950 for a round trip to Tybee Island GA and back. That is just too much money to carry in my opinion.
When I am home I fill up at the local Meijer grocery store where I get between 5 and 10 cents off every gallon of fuel I purchased with their credit card.

I can very well understand the credit card for traveling and with the price of fuel and what it cost's to fill a 30+ gallon tank I would not like to carry cash even close to home. The part that I thought was screwy was the 2 fees for diesel and 1 price for gas. Scott say's the credit fee is built into the gas and unavailable to pay cash to lower that cost. If that is true that sucks worse than the diesel debacle. The feds want to take care of us on these charges and being as stupid as the present regime that has had trillion dollar charges they did not think cost's would be forwarded to the consumer ?. Like everything else the fed does we are in another zoo and the consumer pays the bill. Guess it's my time to step off the soap box now.

We have like agreements for our company fuel cards, price is so much over the daily "rack" figure. Doesn't matter what the pump says for a price.

Some of the oil products that I resell here are billed directly to me upon delivery from several major oil companies. The local distributor gets a percentage from the big boys for handling the product and getting it to my door.

But the day the product is delivered to me the money is taken out of our checking account... . period...

Doesn't matter if we got two bulk fills, a couple pallets of motor oil and a pallet of antifreeze that day, it's out of the checkbook at first light the next morning.

Woo Hoo..... :D

And just to add to the excellent explanation above is this. .

Mastercard, Visa and Discover charge the merchant less than American Express. For example the first three mentioned charge me roughly 2. 5% per transaction. American Express is over 4. 0% right now. Big difference on a bill in the thousands of dollars.

That is why (as many of you already know) you never carry just an American Express because a lot of merchants simply won't take them due to the high fees.

We are currently and always have been eating these charges as a cost of doing business. An ever increasing number don't.
