Took a little ride

We live in Citrus County Florida. It is a neat little county 70 miles north of Tampa and is bordered on the west side by the Gulf of Mexico. It is called the Nature Coast because, at least to me, it is the way Florida USE to be! Home of the 10 minute rush hour! Great roads, 2 wonderful hospitals, 3 Wal-Marts(2 of which are brand new) low taxes. (our house, 2300 sq. ft. on 1 acre, $770 per year. Insurance $1700 per year) It is cheap to live here... ... ... ... Fresh vegetables year round.

But one of the best parts is you can buy a nice little fixer upper winter or retirement home for a cheap as $25K. Or a home on the golf course for less than $75K..... one just hit the market... ... ... 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1650 sq. ft. for $59,500. It has a little lake separating it from the fairway... ... ... ... .

If you need to go to a bigger town for something with malls and traffic, Ocala is 35 miles NE of us. There are other great things I could tell you about our area, but they are not politically correct... ... ... ..... and we have very few Yamn Dankees. The ones that are here, that Yankee mess has been prayed out of them.

We love it!

Yep, many of the same features here in Titus County TX. Our nearby county seat town (5miles) is smaller... only one good hospital and one Super Wal-Mart along with a Lowe's and a Home Depot. We are 50 miles from three cities, shopping malls, etc. , Tyler, Longview, or Texarkana if we want to go via very good highways and little traffic. We are too far from Dallas (120 miles) to commute to work so we don't have that problem. We've returned to the the DFW only once this year and dreaded going. My next move is only to the rest home or the funeral home...

Uncle Bill, in the unlikely event that Texas were to secede, we would consider moving back. But as much as I like wearing shorts and jap flaps almost year round, it would be a hard decision.

How close are you to Wesley Chapel? We usually spend about 3weeks in the area in Feb/March getting some early riding in.

Have some family that spends some time in Rock Crusher Campground around Crystal River.

The mild winters would be awesome but not the humid summers or hurricanes. I would think the skeeters, snakes, gaters, chiggers, leaches and other things that bite would suck tho:-laf

Yep, my sister, a recently retired school teacher, has lived in Vero Beach, FL for 40 years says the same thing. :-laf

We spend a good part of the summer in FL every year, just opposite of what most others from the north do. Honestly, it isn't that much different than the heat here in the summers lately.

My wife is real partial to the St. Augustine area and would eventually like to purchase something close to that region. She's a Disney nut, so it has to be something within a reasonable drive.

Well, all those critters you have mentioned do not bother me. The one that has gone to the top of my talk to God list is "No Seeums. " You cannot see them but they bite and it hurts! Why God, why?

And BTW Mr. Isaacs, we went thru SnowFlake in July... ... ... ... ... ... .....

Well Mr. Nasty, we LOVE the Bitterroot Valley in the summer! Here is a pix of our Cowboy Camp Meeting just outside Florence.

I don't mind GOING to the snow but I don't like the snow COMING to me!

Oh duh! The first summer we were here, I could not figure out what that river was running down my back into my drawers... ... ... ... ... ... Like most places, there are 3 months out of the year that it would be nice to be somewhere else. But the other 9 months make up for it!

Oh Don't take me wrong Barry, FL is nice been there with the family a couple of times for some vacation time/work rest its just that HUMIDITY that I CANT TAKE!!!! It drains me to the bone.

I have not found any place I want to be all year round... ... ... ..... but I have found a few places I would like to alternate between... ... ... ... ... . that's what RVs are for. We have also found a little spot up in the mountains that you can buy a nice little place for $25K... ... ... ... . will be checking that out pretty soon. I am resigned to working for the rest of my life while able. Fortunately, I love my work and I can do it wherever I am... ... ... ... ...

Before we retired I had a calender in my work locker I use to click off the days until it happened. The other drivers said you'll be back the first time it REALLY snows!!! We love this place I cant imagine retirement for ME any other place. But I DONT HAVE TO GO OUT AND WORK IN IT unless I choose to. To drive a gas truck like I did in So Ca up here would be unimaginable. I see the drivers unloading fuel at our stations I buy them some coffee and take it to them. They have a bewildered look most of the time and I tell them I Did that job in So CA and your a better man than I. Some have said NO I HAVE BEEN TO SO CA you are the better man :-laf
