I am sure someone knows how to disarm the horn from blowing when backing up with the drivers door open. I would appreciate as detailed an answer as practical. Pictures would really help if available. Thanks!!! Mike

It's easy - - just go under the drivers seat and locate the pair of wires that go to the seat belt locking device at rear of drivers seat next to the center section. - - take a scotch lock and connect those two wires together or take those two wires wires and twist then together, then tape them) easier to use scotch lock, all you need is a pair of pliers. The system will shut down the horn. I did this several years ago when trying to back into a space at an RV Park, and didn't want to wake the whole park. Sorry I don't have a picture, its raining like a SOB here in Texas - - If it clears up tomorrow I'll take one

More - - as near as I can tell wires are black and green with a purple trace on a 2006 Mega Cab - - couldn't take a picture - -It was to close under the front seat.

That also disables the seat belt warning chime. A simpler but not totally satisfactory method is to keep your belt buckled while backing up.

Mine was done when they had it in to fix a weather strip problem, and did it without my permission it was a flash, and it only sounds the horn when the door is open and in reverse, the seatbelt has nothing to do with it on mine.

That JUST disables the seat belt chime and light, it will not disable the out of park alarm. The out of park alarm cannot be disabled, turned off, or changed unless you use a custom ECU. It is permanently in those ECU's that have had it installed.

The 2 modules used for that recall are the fcm and the CCn,interestingly the recall is no longer listed in the us recall list for 05 but still is in the world recalls. I have also stopped getting recall notices for the e-17.

I've NEVER had it done to mine... Great to have a small town dealer that WANTS YOUR return business!

Yep, that's what I really like about our local small town dealer. That recall has never been done to my truck either and my truck is in their shop regularly for routine maintenance. The dealer service people have assured me that they won't do that recall to a truck unless the customer asks. I haven't received a recall notice from Chrysler for the recall in quite a while. I guess they finally gave up or the time required to send notices ran out. :)

I made a jumper wire for the seat connection to eliminate the no seat belt chime years ago. Our previous place had a very long driveway with a couple of gates that had to be opened and closed. I wouldn't re-buckle the seat belt between gates since I had to get in and out of the truck for each gate. I got tired of the warning and installed the jumper. Now it only chimes once at start up and the "little red man" light goes out.

I simply programmed the no seatbelt chime to shut up. I get the little red light, but no chime.
The only fix I have found for the horn honking in reverse is to keep the brake lights lit up. Right now, that calls for me to "two foot" it when driving, but it beats closing the door.
I thought about jumping in some sort of switch that would activate the brake lights any time the door was open. I have since decided to just get better at spotting my truck/trailer!

Maybe its because I have a manual, but I cannot think of a good reason to leave the door open when backing?

Me either. I learned to back up using the mirrors when I was very young, have not had to open a door to back for 40+ years.

There isn't a good reason. The way the seat is positioned and the body design it is extremely hard to lean out the door and look back anyway. Good reason to invest in backup camera if the mirrors don't work.

Okay, I am not missing something.

I can pretty much see everything I need to in the tow mirrors. I couldn't even imagine trying to 3 pedal drive (or using 2LO and creeping) leaning out the door to look, and at 6'4" I have plenty of reach.

A good backup camera is something I would like, the biggest issue is where to put it in the cab. Maybe replace the UG with a CTS??

If you're backing into a tight spot in the woods you have to look up for branches hitting the trailer. Especially on uneven ground where the trailer is rocking back and forth. Or have a competent spotter but sometimes you need a spotter on both sides.

I have seem retired truckers who can visualize the space and slide right in but you're average recreational trucker can't do it.

I have seen guys in campgrounds act like they were some kind of Big Rig driver or something they had the door open and was backing into the spot and the door caught the camp marker poles that outline the spot. He had to have 3 of us to shut the door and then had to crawl in from the passenger side to drive it.

IT LOOKS COOL , Some of the Class 8 trucks had mirrors mounted to the door and it was easy to just open the door and swing it in and out to see better, most are body mounted now and it don't work like it use to. Bunch of want to be's

Genos is selling a Rostra kit that uses a 4" rearview mirror display that is pretty dam nice, though I think that the Boyo VTL375HD license plate camera is an excellent camera, better then the Rostra. At some point in time, I am going to put my own kit together using the Boyo and another rearview mirror display, for about the same price as Genos, but perhaps a higher resolution pic, if that matters. I may even put one in front so that I can pull up as far as possible to walls without hitting them, as my light bar sticks out an extra 9" or so from my truck.

I spend a lot of time backing into tight primitive camping sites with my nearly 30' TT, the mirrors work far better. Unless you can get your head 2' outside the truck the angle on the mirror provides a better angle.

Putting the camper into my side yard has 2" of clearance to the gutter and 2" to the fence. If I am backing the mirrors are the only thing that lets me see on the side of the camper. Thou I usually just push the camper into the back with the front receiver, but that's irrelevant here :)

Thanks, I hadn't seen that one before.

Yep, thats my plan. Probably a single DIN with flip out screen. Not sure a double DIN will gain enough to be worth while. Just have to decide where and what to get.

The only reason it aggrevates me is say Im backing up to a bumper pull trailer thats loaded down heavy. I get backed up, but Im have a ball off one way or the other.
At that point, not only do I have to get back in the truck and shift to reverse, but I have to close the door to move the truck 1 inch. just a stupid way to try and fix a crappy shifter issue. Dang Lawyers
