Dodge VM Diesel 1500

I just found out today, (well we are out in the Country) that Toyota is going to have a Cummins 2015 ??? Good for Cummins, Bad for what a Dodge used to be, before it died (lost it's name). I am glad that my 02 Dodge 2500 and my wife's 99 1500 Dodge Sport will be in our garage as long as we will last. They are not "rams", they are Dodges. They both only have about 70-80k on them for mileage. Since Dodge name is gone here's what will fill it's place:

"The Tundra will utilize a 5.0-liter turbo-diesel V8 from Cummins to power its next-generation Tundra, which is likely to make its debut in 2016 according to Ward’s Auto. It’s unclear how or whether the engines will differ in specifications, but the Nissan unit is expected to make over 300 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque."

Our Dodge Fleet in 2001.

Dodge is No Longer as far as trucks go! The brain child that decided to do that should have gotten his walking papers. There are rams now, but no Dodge. That is where one loss is. The other is putting a fiat "diesel" engine in what used to be a Dodge; now a ram. Even here at TDR they have left the Dodge name off of their main page in the Forums in favor of ram. I'm done with it here now. Unfortunately for American Auto manufacturers all the imports that are able to use the Mighty Cummins will be the winners, be it Nissan or Toyota.

I dont share your view of a "Demise of our trucks" My 13 RAM Cummins is a FAR better quality build than my 2004 Dodge Cummins and that is a far better truck than my 2001 Dodge Cummins. The drivetrain parts are still built here in the USA as it always has been. The Cummins will still be built in Indiana as it always has been. The truck is assembled in Mexico (mainly USA parts) and again the build quality is great in my view. If you need a excuse to not buy a new I-6 Cummins powered truck the nameplate is a poor one.

I still have a Dodge Cummins, Won't be buying something that doesn't have Dodge on it

Does your 2007 say Dodge on the outside anywhere?

Neither my 2005 nor my Dad's 2006 say Dodge, they say Ram 2500 and Ram 3500. I believe 2004 was the last year they said Dodge on them, they were still a Dodge but it was starting to go away already.

I think the only place they say Dodge is the valve cover.

I guess this thread has some guys who owned a DODGE before it was immortalized by the CUMMINS. I get your drift guys. I know it's a RAM now, but hold fast until the last pentastar is gone from any and all parts. I'm beginning to feel like a Packard owner!
Crazyhorse, you realize that the 2 gen ram was done more by Jeep than Dodge engineers. The Jeep/ Chrysler merger was great IMHO.

This is true, and I drink coffee with one of those AMC veterans, now retired, every day. They were responsible for the Rubicon package for Jeep, many of the great improvements that got Dodge back into the truck game, and were largely responsible for the true, straight-frame cab & chassis.

The Jeep/Chrysler merger had some benefits but it also had some negatives. For example - Chrysler immediately killed the Jeep pickup truck. Our family has owned these since the early 70's and there is still one in the family today along with my Grand Wagoneer.
I don't like them dropping the name "Dodge" along with many others whom I know that drive different brands. Whenever they see a new "Ram" truck they still refer to it as a "Dodge" truck. Old ways die hard I guess.
I can get by with saying "Dodge" on my 2009 truck because the overhead console still greets me with a big "Dodge" whenever I turn the key.
I apologize for this being a picture of a different brand truck but I still miss having it in my garage.

In the past, I owned a 1980 2WD Dodge Club Cab, and a 1980 dodge 4x4 crew cab, with 1980 being the first year with a Ram on it--a decal on the fenders, but not on the emblems. I also had a 1985 2WD Dodge crew cab, a 1995 4WD Dodge Club Cab, a 1997 Dodge 4x4 club cab, and a 2004 Dodge 4x4 Quad Cab. My 2013 Dodge, oops, Ram 4x4 crew cab is by far the best. It is still made by Chrysler Group. None of the powertrain is made by Chrysler, but I am very happy that they make available the very best components for us, instead of using the Ford approach of supplying their own stuff built to the minimum cost and quality they think they can get away with.
