Hello All,

I just purchased a set of headlights for my Dodge truck. When I installed them I noticed the lights were very dim. During my troubleshooting exercise I noticed that the high-beam indicator on the instrument panel stayed on no matter how I try to select for low beam. I also noticed that even though the high-beam indicator was on, the light was VERY dim. I went and purchased another pair of lights because when I removed the bulb, the high-indicator would work as it supposed to, but the new bulbs didn't make a difference. The lights stays in the high-beam position, but however the lights are VERY dim. Any help here would be immensely appreciated.

I am sorry. I thought putting it in the title would've been enough.

Did you buy sport lights for a non-sport truck? Did you buy the entire headlight or just bulbs? Other then that it sounds like a wiring problem.

All I did was replace the bulbs with:

GE 9007NHP/BP2 Nighthawk PLATINUM Headlight Bulbs

The 9007 bulbs are for the sport head light configuration. They have four bulbs with separate high and low beam bulbs. The non sport trucks(chrome bumper) use a 9004 series bulb. I think you are buying the wrong bulbs. What is the number on the original bulbs that you removed? The first step for better headlights on a stock truck is to install a Bright Box wiring kit, which provides bigger wiring and relays at the head lights. SNOKING

The GE 9007NHP/BP2 Nighthawk PLATINUM Headlight Bulbs has both high and low beam filament in one bulb.

Ahhhhhh. So even though it says the the will work for the 2001 Dodge Ram, that not necessarily true.

Correct, it will work if the truck has the 4 lamp sports headlights. If I remember correctly from years ago, you also can not install to high of a wattage bulb or you melt the headlight lens.

Also the OEM wiring is quite small gauge and that is why I installed the Bright Box kit that pulls head power directly from the batteries and only uses the headlight switch to pull the relays. I also recall them saying the headlight switch is a weak sister.

Since I already bought two sets of these lights. What would it take to get them to work or am I better off just getting the OEM lights and be done with it??

If I were to takeon the conversion, would I need to change my headlights?? Or all I would need is the Brite Box kit?

No it works with the standard NON sport 9004 configuration bulbs. In the earlier picture I posted, the trucks wiring at both bulbs is for 9004. If you want to use the 9007, you need to do the sport headlight conversion or start modifying the trucks wiring which will cause a lot of confusion down the road. Snoking

Aaahhhh........ Now I get it. Thing about it is this, now that I've re-read all the post in this thread everything is perfectly clear now. Not sure why I couldn't see that before......
