Tow/Haul Mode

Lately I have been driving with tow/haul mode turned on even when I am not towing. I like the way it shifts later than when not in tow/haul. Does anybody know if there are any negatives to doing this?

I would like to hear that answer myself. I assume ram deliberately put that little bit of delay, slippage or whatever you want to call it that occurs when the transmission is locking up after a gear upshift. Question is why? does it absorb some of the torque before locking up? I don't know but would like to find out.

It unlocks for a split second so you don't shift locked to locked.

Run TH and EV all the time. Good for the trans and EB. Turn mine on every time. 50K and no problems.

If running with both on is good, is there a way to switch the default to ON so you would have to use the buttons to turn it OFF?

EB not EV sorry! EB is exhaust brake.

There is no harm in using Tow/Haul mode all the time. Tow/Haul mode alters the shift schedule (delays some of the shifts, makes it easier to get kickdowns) and gives you more aggressive engine braking / coastdown shifts. Feel free to run in Tow/Haul as much as you want.

I suspect that the reason Tow/Haul defaults to "off" (which cannot be changed, as far as I know) is that your fuel economy will decrease slightly in Tow/Haul mode (due to the later upshifts), so we use the mode with maximum fuel economy as the default.

I've been using TH and EB all the time with my Lance Camper mounted for the summer. I like the better exhaust braking in TH for sure. I'm very happy to know it doesn't harm anything except mileage.

I also think it's a liability issue. Let's say it's icy out and the EB and TH are on you can imaging the law suit!

I don't know about the tow haul mode but on the exhaust Brake, just make sure the brakes have seated. We made the mistake of using the EB when unhooked when we 1st picked up the truck figuring it would help save the brakes. At 5,000 miles the brakes were not working as we had expected and it took several trips to dealers and them telling us our brakes looked like they had never been used before we figured out for ourselves that this was because our brakes had not been seated. Dutch took care of that and our brakes are so much better & working fine. We now use the EB unhooked on occasion, say in heavy traffic, and feel there is no problem doing this. Hugs, Di

Too tall, I had a 2012 with a 68FRE trans and it did not have the flare in it, as the 2013's do. I went round n round with the dealer with my 2013 until we figured out its by design to smooth the downshifts out, which is much smoother then my 2012.

Having said that, the "flare" drives me nuts..it wont hurt it etc. Rumor has it maybe the engineers will give us a re flash to tighten it up a little.
