I was told that the driver barely got it stopped and out the frigin' door before it went up.....pretty good fire when everything from the grill to the headboard is gone. That would include a 48" or 60" sleeper that melted down.

Well at least he doesn't have to worry about the insurance company trying to "patch it up".

Aroostook County: The only place in the lower 48 where even motorcycles need a moose bar.

I have a sweatshirt I bought at Bishop's Store in Jackman during my snowmobiling days.
It Reads:
Jackman
Population 920
Deer 685
Moose 1584
Bear 169
Natives: Darn Few

It is nasty, but a couple of weeks with rainy or snowy freezing weather will create that mess when you are hauling 50% off-road.

We are having issues now with CAT air compressor, water pump and oil cooler cores being degraded in value as a result of the road chemicals eating the surfaces right off.

These trucks are in a very harsh enviroment for much of their service life in addition to being overloaded most of the time.

There are a couple of logging companies here that keep their equipment cleaner than most limo services. Trucks/trailers get washed almost every morning, etc... but you are right, running off-road and winter road salts ruin engine compartments.

All New CR rails are prone to corrosion, Cummins/Bosch now blanket all lines and rail. We NO longer will mod Rails that are corroded, its New or yours, I've see the corrosion eat thru the casting and cause the Rail to leak at the fittings. I could go on $ on about road chemicals. ugh. The claim that Road chloride is NOT corrosive BS. They spray that on the roads around here prior to any snow thread weather it snows or not.

In the video review look at the redline on the tach. 4000 rpm is how they fake 440 hp. Your never going to rev it to 4000 rpm. Those hp numbers are hype. Torque numbers are similar to Ram

Ford has always has a high redline, my understanding is that it's the redline for zero fuel as in coasting or trans braking down a grade.

The 440hp rating is actually at 2,800 rpms, which is the same as the 6.7 Cummins. The torque rating is at 1,600 where the Cummins is at 1,700.

Wile I am not a fan of the Ford motor they are rating a diesel at the proper rpms. 860 @ 1600 is a bit higher than 850 @ 1,700. I am curious to see how they do, but won't stray from the ISB.

Well, I am new to the diesel truck. I bought a new 2013 Ram 2500 tradesman/CTD almost a year ago. I went with the Ram because of the standard transmission. I love my turbo diesel with the G56 transmission. Pulled a double axle trailer through the smokies in june. It was a blast. Love that engine brake and uphill torque. Didn't downshift out of 6th gear unless someone was going slowin front of me. Kept an eye on the oil and coolant temps. Maxed out at around 212 F.
Very pleased with my truck so far. Even though my engine is detuned down to 660 ff lbs.(manual transmission), It is more than adequate for my needs. Didn't notice the 2800 on the rpms for that hp. Thanks for pointing that out. Interesting that the tuning on the manual transmission gives its nax torque at 1500 rpm, a bit lower rpm for nax torque than the torqier automatic transmissions. New to the TDR communuty. But a friend and former CTD owner told me that these forums are worth gold. Even though the sole reason I bought the Cummins was because they were the only HD with a manual, if I had educated myself before buying, I still would have picked the Cummins even if all 3 offered a standard transmission.

Welcome aboard, newsa. The smokies are awesome. Please fill in a signature so we know what truck you have. Helps in discussion.

Would that be under "my profile"? Because I don't have sufficient privileges to do that. (According to the error message)

Thanks guys. I updated signature, profile pic & avatat. Hope it worked.
One other thing I experienced with my heavy truck was getting up a parking garage ramp after it rained.

Glad I got the 4x4, because I would have needed to back down into a busy street because I was spinning my rear wheels
and not moving. I just engaged the 4x4 and it pulled me right up. I was surprised about that, because I have the limted slip differential.
But I guess having all that weight over the front axle made it hard to get enough rear wheel traction.

Lets see if I can get my file to attach.

hahaha... they deleted my post from the youtube video! I simply asked how many times per 100K miles they would need to replace the exhaust valves and turbo!

One thing you will notice about The Fast Lane Truck is that Roman hates Ram. If Nathan is there, he will keep Roman in check.
But if Mr. Truck is there, Roman will bash away at Ram. They may have removed your comment because they don't want to anger the 45% of the market (people who buy super duties).

On the point of the HP @ 2700-2800 rpm. I have a manual transmission. I always shift (even when towing up hill) between 2000-2400.
Red Line on my truck is around 3000. I don’t use HP up in that rpm range. In the usable range, I think even this new super duty is not better
than the comparable Ram.. HP in the usable range for my tyoe of driving is the same for the Ram & super duty.

Reving a diesel too high puts unnecessary stress on if.
