Here is a rare one, check this out on ebay. 1978 Dodge pickup truck with original 243.4 cu. in. 6 cylinder Mitsubishi Diesel power.

eBay item number:272032828072

IIRC that same engine was available in an I-H Scout at one time. The first ones were naturally aspirated and were s-l-o-w, noisy, and made lots of smoke. Later models were turbocharged, but it didn't help much on acceleration, but did eliminate some of the exhaust smoke. I imagine the performance in a Dodge pickup was about the same... plenty of smoke and noise and as stated above, "slower than a herd of turtles". Diesels in a pickup truck have come a long way... :)

Probably the same Mitsubishi diesel that showed up in early Bayliner boats right after that time frame, and they were slow also. There are many still on the water, so parts must be available. Chris

There was a Scout diesel at a show I attended a few years ago. It was nice but I've never seen one if these. At least we know there's one out there.

This is the 2nd one I have seen on ebay. If I had the money to waste, I would like to have it. I wonder if they put one in the Ramcharger?

I found the IH Scout II in a vehicle valid table file at the office, IH Scout II 1976-1980 198" Diesel. But Bill, it don't say who's diesel, just validates its existence.

But here's the trivia, was it ever turbocharged? According to this independent file, it was in 1980 only as a code 633T or maybe 6-33T.

For those who don't know Ramcharger was AD & AW. The D is for 2 wheel drive and W is for 4 wheel drive , just like the trucks. End of todays trivia lesson. :)

100hp and 163 lb ft of torque according to the emissions sticker. At least you don't have to worry about snapping any input shafts...

And that's what a diesel is without a turbo. Pretty flat!

Ill see if I can dig out that parts cat and snap a image or 3....

Current bid: US $4,200.00
Reserve not met
Enter US $4,250.00 or more

I wonder what the reserve is? In one sense you would think that any classic truck that is in great shape should be able to net $4k. Question is, would you drive it home, or haul in back on a flatbed trailer? I already know that no one here would have a transport company do it...:-laf
