What kind of travelling do you do in a 2500 Diesel that requires a winch? In my old trail toy (86 Ramcharger) I did multiple trips to Moab doing reasonably hard trails and also have done many solo, multi-day backcountry trips that required us to live out of our truck for up to a week at a time. 200 miles off-road in some cases.....I have yet to need a winch, although I would have liked to have one.

Methinks you have money burning a hole in your wallet.

The winch is more of a want than a real need, at this time. Also more of a thought than something that is needed.
I was going to order a Power Wagon, that comes with the winch. (but they don't come with the long bed or the Turbo Diesel Engine) If we get a Jeep Wrangler as a toad for behind out RV I am definitely going to add a Winch with the Synthetic Cable. ( I had one on my Old 1973 F-350 Crew Cab, that I bought at auction from So. Cal Edison) When I sold that truck I got more for it than I paid for it. (Thank God for teenagers!)

Close the hood and get behind the wheel. Only reason the open the hood is to check and change fluids and filters.

Have you actually purchased a truck yet. If so, why not list it in your signature?

OK found it! Nov 19th post by w6pea "I just ordered a new 2016 2500 Big Horn 4x4 CC/LB IL-6 6.7 L CTD."

If you got the 8.4AN and the 7"EVIC there is enough there to keep you busy the first couple years!!!!!!!!

Pat,
With the new trucks and with you living in California I would leave the truck alone.

First Calf. requires all aftermarket products that are fitted to the truck and could interfere with the emissions system to be CARB certified, most are not. Now the CAI ( air box) flows enough air to support the HP/TQ that the truck is making stock. Most CAI system say that you could see less than a 10% improvement when added. When I worked at Cat anything less than a 10% improvement in performance was ignored. This could be operator introduced and was very hard to measure and support in a second round of testing.

Now a Turbo Back exhaust system change would require removal of the DPF and any other emission rated components such as the DEF system. With this removal your truck would not pass the emission required testing and you could not license the truck in Calf. The newer design emission system with DEF has less issues then the earlier trucks built around 07.5 to 10 MY. If I was to purchase a new 15 or 16 truck the truck would remain stock.

Jim

I was looking at some back issues of TDR,in issue 87 in the 10 Back /section first article or letter on pg 10. And there was a very interesting article in issue 80 and another in issues 56 & 59. Air Intake Systems Part #1 and Part #2 Would really be a waste of money and it would also (although it doesn't come right out and say it) it would more than likely null and void the warranty, So with my luck (If it weren't for Bad Luck, I'd have no Luck at all) if I did any of the things I was thinking of doing, except for maybe the work lights. They would run me out of the dealership, on a Rail Tarred & Feathered. If I went in for any service or warranty work,
So there really must something to it that Geno's will not sell K&N Filters.
I guess who ever it was that left a TDR magazine in my Doctors Office must have a Ram Truck. I can't wait for mine to get here.

I mentioned 'consider' the oil by pass system to better filter the oil.
Might I also mention 'consider' a cooling filter by pass system.

It's not much in cost and you change the filter one per year. Last June I replaced the filter I have on my old '06 and when I cut the filter open for the heck of it, seen some debris in the filter. Not much, but was there. It was mentioned years ago to me, that when they cast the engines, it's in sand and no matter how much they clean the parts, there will always be some sand left. As it slowly breaks free from the casting, it's like sand paper when it gets ground up in the cooling system. This can slowly wear out parts later. A coolant filter set up would be a cheap investment over the life of the truck.

I was thinking of put a Coolant System filter like this on http://sinisterdiesel.com/i-15883429-sinister-diesel-coolant-filtration-system-for-dodge-cummins-6-7l.html

Snoking, & An Old Biker & or any one else.
I talked to my dealer earlier today actually yesterday. We talked about the Alternator. When I ordered the truck I ordered it with a 200 amp. I asked him if they were going to get the radio's moved for me. (my Amateur Radio's) he brought up about the alternators. In my current truck I have a 225amp alternator, it has one battery (Ford Ambulance package Alternator)

My question is there is a option for 2 alternators, the dealer said we could change to 2 alternators that it's not to late to do that. Any thoughts?

I thought it was 180 standard, 220 upgrade or dual alternators???? Geez a 220 should handle what you want to do. Dual just puts an extra load on the engine that you do not need. I do not know how RAM is handling it, but in boating it takes some really expensive hardware to combine the output of two alternators for a single battery bank. I would think the RAM setup is for an additional battery bank in an ambulance or wrecker??? SNOKING

On second thought, I am just going to stay with what it has with the 220 Amp. Alternator, I am running 4 radio's in my truck now and am only going to move 2 of them to the new truck.

You are going to have so many mods completed that by the time you get the truck there will be none available!!! Or is that the master plan that you have been working by????? SNOKING

The only modification will be a camper shell, and a carpet kit inside campershell Other wise it's going to stay stock. Will post pictures as soon as it gets here. The dealer has had the POC since I first posted. Had to wait for funds to clear escrow account, signed final papers today. Now the waiting begins.

??? you had to pay upfront for an ordered truck? My Son and I sat at AutoNation ordered two trucks that retailed at 145K without a cent down and did not have to take when they showed up if we did not like them.

Here is an upgrade you can do that will let you open the hood to do it. Only cost $13.95 plus shipping. I am thinking about a second one to go on a trailer hitch cap/insert.

I bought my wife a new truck and they wanted me to select the one I wanted and prepay. Buying sight unseen. I found a dealer that got what I wanted and when we finished looking it over, we bought it. Pre paying before seeing ??? ..... No way.
