Why is my display showing this ? How do I get my compass working again ?

I would recalibrate the compass and see what happens. Seems to me that happened to me once or it may have been I put it in calibrate mode accidentally somehow. I don't remember how to do it but it is in the manual

If I remember correctly that is the temp shown if connection is lost to the probe out front or it goes bad.

The compass has lost it's calibration. It can be calibrated in most of our vehicles by doing circles im a large parking lot by doing 3 circles in one direction than 3 in the opposite direction in the same location at IIRC between 8 and 15 mph or by doing this

  1. Start the engine. If the compass/temperature data is not currently being displayed, momentarily depress and release the Step push button to step through the display options until you have reached the compass/temperature display.
  2. Depress both the U.S./Metric and the Step push buttons at the same time for more than six seconds, until “CAL” appears in the display, then release both push buttons. The “CAL” in the display indicates that the compass is in the calibration mode.
  3. Drive the vehicle on a level surface, at least fifty feet away from large metal objects and power lines, in all four compass directions, such as driving around a city block several times or driving in two to three complete circles at a slow to medium speed.
  4. When the calibration is successfully completed, “CAL” will disappear from the display and normal compass mini-trip computer operation will resume.

What if it doesn't display at all? When I first got the truck it did not display anything. About a year later, it suddenly started working. It worked about a year and since then hasn't displayed anything.

I see now...I thought the "cal" was the "-" sign and it was saying -35.....

Once I blew the picture up I saw the error of my ways.....

most likely the module has died.I have run across that more and more as they age.

Well the compass came back on today so I did 3 circlles and it worked for about 15 minutes then went back off again and the cal sign is up again and no compass

We've not had 35 below in several years we did hit 27 below for about .2 weeks this winter hopefully long enough to kill the bugs anyway

There is a chance the roof panel has been magnetized.
If you have access to a degauser I would try that
