WHY has the pages and format been changed again? How do you tell what is new, already read and what has not been read? I have been a member since 2000 and this forum is dying in my opinion. At the time that I am typing, there are only about 10 paying members, me included and 385 VISITORS!

I used to go into each forum and look at the posts I had not read as you mention above. Then I discovered the "New Posts" button and that's all I do now unless I'm looking for something specific. Try it, I bet you'll like it.

Yes, "New Posts" first. Then as the day goes on use "Today's Posts". Then you can even see threads that have not been replied to.

As far as the changes they have no choice. Technology keeps marching ahead whether we liked an older version or not. If this forum were not kept up to date then people would lose access and functionality.

Admin4 will get it tweaked in the course of a few weeks. It is a huge undertaking when EVERYTHING is updated at once. There are a gazillion little settings running behind the scenes to make this work with all of the browsers that are in use.

And then we have to be a bit flexible and maybe do a few things differently. Never hurts to learn something new....

Just about every forum that I am on has changed since I have joined them. Why? For one reason the security issue of hackers infecting that forum with male-ware and other virus of that nature. Two as Mike has said technology moves on and we need to keep up with that. I have this same discussion with my wife every time her I-phone and her I-pad has software updates.

My biggest complaints and I understand why are some password updates that are required now on some forums and or software programs to access them.

I tried "New Posts" and it gives me ALL the different generation new posts. I'd like to ask for NEW POSTS in the forum page I am looking in only.

You are correct. Unless you only get on every 2 or 3 days there are generally only 10-15 new posts.

Anyway, Admin4 posted on the skin thread that he had changed the icon coloring to help you determine which ones are new, unread.

When is "upgrading" too high a price??

I've been on TDR and other forums continuously since 2005 and the other forums managed to keep a similar look and feel and more importantly the picture links. I know they are trying to make TDR "modern", but the fact that many an excellent older thread has now lost most of its value due to the loss of picture links (like sag2's injector thread) is a much larger negative to the value of the TDR than any positive benefit of the new ability to view the forums on every single f'ing digital device known to man. This drive to modernize is destroying the legacy of the past. When is the huge loss of valuable information too high a price to pay?

I just noticed that there's a little red box with 2 down arrows next to the title on the threads that have new posts. If I click on that it goes to the first unread post. Take a look and see if you can see the same.

The legacy of the TDR IS lost... I couldn't have said it better than you did. I use a laptop to search the TDR and other web sites. I don't need to access the tdr on an Ipad, smart phone or any other "NEW" invention of man. I learned a lot from this web site in the beginning but losing a lot of the older posts for our older trucks is not good. Some, like me and others have decided to keep our early third gen trucks and drive them out. It seems to me that most of the GOOD old well versed guys that had good ways to maintain and repair our trucks have gone another path. Sad......

I think TDR in general is dying. I hate to say that but I think the inevitable is in the horizon for TDR. My opinion isn't based on recent updates in any way shape or form. It's simply based off a noticeable decline in forum activity in recent years. Nonetheless, I'll never switch to the chest thumpers on forum B. I hate that website and most of the posters on that forum; except for the few TDR's of course :D.

This thread is making me sad. :{
The major downer is when the mass advertising came. Other than that, I think the TDR regulars know who they are. It would be nice if there was more of a proprietary area, besides politics, for paid members.

The free 30 day trial membership brought out all the 1 post wonders and spam.

Blame some of the decline on the new trucks that remain in stock form and do so much right off the showroom floor.

I do not like the new fonts that arrived recently.

To have fun here anymore I just go to the snake pit and poke a stick at them to stir things up. They drive and live so far to the right that they are past the ditch in most cases.

This is why forum b is way more active than TDR. Those guys are busy deleting there trucks, adding lift kits, changing this and changing that.

I switched back to the previous skin. The main thing I missed on the new is that when you choose "New Posts" you can turn your phone sideways and it'll show which forum 2nd Gen, 4th Gen or whichever the thread is part of. Somethings will interest me on other trucks and this was a quick way to see. The new skin does not show the forums the posts are from when filtering new posts.
