I'm still around....

My friend's family reserved some rooms @ $90/each in Idaho Falls,Id a year ago which is just a hair off the totality path. He thinks he's going to drive a bit and immerse himself and family in the phenomenon. I think he's stuck in Idaho Falls.
Maybe a midnight run?

Google Images for "Oregon Eclipse" shows a bunch of weirdo 20 somethings wearing makeup, doing yoga, and just about everything else you can think of.

I'm betting the true locals can't wait for the eclipse to be over

So I did the google search and you weren't kidding. I'm happy to see that these young people have enough vacation time saved up to take the time off to set up these elaborate camps just for this eclipse..............

They had a fellow on the local news this morning that had traveled all around the world and seen something like 15 total eclipses in his lifetime. He sounded great for a couple of minutes telling us what we would see and why and then he said that he has done all this traveling to see eclipses in hopes that at one of the eclipses we would have a visit from aliens.....

Sun & Moon pagans worshipping the gods of the sun and moon, praying they won't go to war and destroy the Earth. TBH, there are a few people who are genuinely curious about eclipses in general, and the mechanics thereof.

Well I'm all set. A few tourist traps and it's back to HQ for this thing. No I won't drink the kool aid but I did catch this at the Lee Hi truck stop in middle Virginia.

We left our RV park for the 12 mile trip to our grandkids' house in Salem expecting heavy traffic on the coast highway. I guess all the locals stayed home, the roads were nearly deserted compared to normal Monday morning traffic. My DIL works in downtown Salem and texted that traffic in the city was normal. I guess all the crazies are in central OR.

Just scored some solar viewing glasses. That means we can stay home and view it from here.

It's surprising how dark these glasses are. Truly can't see anything but the sun with them on.

We probably look like fools out here right now. We have our lawn chairs set up and waiting for the show to begin.

Only a few steps from the Jayco with the loaded outside fridge. Gonna be a good day.

Cool pics guys. We pulled out the ole auto darkening welding helmets to enjoy the 1/2 eclipse here in Ca.

Can't wait to see the piles of trash left behind by the Oregon eclipse'rs

The big lesson here for me was the awesome power of the Sun.
Tough to get good shots but we got down to a thin wire going around less than 1/4 around while at poolside at Dolly's Dreammore resort. With that the crickets started and it cooled off a bit but it remained light as if it were artificial lighting. As if the whole place was moved into a shop with vapor lamps.

You'd think that with the end of the "Dark Ages" and the advent of true science we'd be rid of this sort of behavior.

I happened to be home at peak eclipse (80%). It really was pretty neat. Night crickets were chirping and frogs a croakin' in the pond. Felt like twilight.

And Bo, our newest addition to the family, felt obliged to try and decrease the population by a few :-laf

100% here in Glenrock, WY! Neat to see in person, but the swarms of people have been quite annoying...
Quite a few rude tourists have invaded my tiny town and I'm glad to see them leave!!
All of the jails are full of people that only got to see a few florescent lights... While waiting to see a judge!!

How's this for coincidence. We came up here to Salem for my high school reunion and to see the grandkids. This morning my wife saw the next eclipse will be in 2024 and Killeen, TX is under the centerline. At least central TX roads are adequate for the influx of visitors, OR was a mess.
