Anyone sorry they sold their 2nd Gen when they bought a 3rd or 4th Gen?

I do miss my 02, but more for the simplicity of it, i think my 04 is the best truck i've ever had, and as of right now i don't ever plan on selling it.
the power of the 3rd gens is nice for sure.
my 08 once it lost some weight is a nice truck, but it's not as nice as my 04 to drive.
my old ears like the quieter sound of the HPCR cummins as well.
if you have teh room to keep it, might as well, keep it for the winter driving, or woods drivcing and keep the new for the road trips... just my thoughts.

I was sad to see my 97 go, mostly for sentimental reasons but also the simplicity of the 12V. I kept both the 97 and 06 for a while but a contractor made me an offer for the 97 that I couldn't refuse and I let it go. I think the most disappointing part of moving from the 97 to an 06 was the drop in bottom end torque and the "looser" torque converter. The 97 was more fun to drive.

All that said, moving on was the right decision for me and I don't regret letting it go (anymore).

Sad that I sold Old Blue? No! Do I miss it? Yes!

I also do not miss the fact that it had a limited 4 speed auto, it would have been great with a 6 speed auto. RAM really missed the boat on number of transmission gears until they finally came out with the 68RFE.

I lovingly spent thousands of dollars on upgrades. Old Blue did find a nice new home in Sequim, Wa. Old Blue tows a horse trailer now and the new owner's husband reports the horses run to the corner of the pasture when the truck is a 1/2 mile away to greet it home when his wife returns from town.

I miss my well built 94 but it went to a good home and should be at the off road expo this week end so I can go visit her

Before getting our new '17, we decided we would sell the '00 and just have one truck. Now my wife is thinking it would be fun to keep it and do some of the things she has always wanted to do ... add stacks, etc., and just keep it as a toy. We have made lots of mods and it has 4.10 gears, so it's really a happy running truck with the bigger tires.

As tempting - and fun - as keeping it sounds, the logical part of my brain keeps tapping me on the shoulder reminding me that it makes sense to turn it loose.

I still miss my '01 3500 for the simplicity, the familiararity and the many miles I put on it. Unfortunately it had the '53 Cummins and the block cracked @ 231K. I found a gorgeous '04.5 3500 Laramie and bought it at 101K, I hated the color Red, the huge size and the complexity. So I
Sold it and bought an '05 2500 4X4 SWB but still miss my Silver '01. The 3rd gens are quieter, have more power, and are nicer to drive but I
Still Prefer the simplicity.

I still have mine and am very happy with it. I always say that the clatter is the sound of POWER. But quite is nice to. But the head aches that comes with a newer one-----

Absolutely sorry I sold my 2001. I had it tastefully modified up to 450 hp and 970 lb/ft tq to the ground. It still was a great daily driver, could tow, and held up to hundreds of passes down the drag strip.

Sadly, I sold it to purchase my current 07 since I convinced myself that I needed a 4 door for the family. If I would be able to do it over, I would have kept the '01 a bought a large SUV to daily drive.

I can see why you miss it. I have to admit I got a laugh when I noticed the BFG tires on it. For as many haters there are here for those tires I've never had an issue with them (and that's about 30 years worth).

Post a pic of it from the expo!

The bfgs are the best tires in the sand next to the original DC fun countrys or Norseman. They just would not work on my brand new 3rd gen.Death wobble on the way home from the tire store.Swapped out to Toyo's never happened again.

is it auto or manual? what part of the country are you.?

I'm in Phoenix. It's an auto trans.
I know the stock auto trans is a weak link.So when I lost 2nd gear, I had it rebuilt w/Suncoast TC, valve body, shift kit, and deep Mag-Hytec pan - and has a manual TC lockup switch on the dash

Ive only got about 130 on my 02, bought it brand new. Very reliable.
Sometimes I wish I got the manual trans, but I dont really need it for my 4klb travel trailer. I dont like the looks of the 3rd gens and newer. And I like the sound of it. I always get people coming up to me and asking about it and saying nice truck.

I miss mine everyday. I wrestled with keeping vs selling for over a year before I bought the new one, in the end I decided to sell. In a perfect world I would have turned the 98 into a sled puller for local events and just plain ol have fun with it, but in the real world there's no way I'd have ever had the time or resources with a kid in high school and another a year out (and both planning for college). Some day when the kids have flown the nest I will revisit that one.

So far I do not regret the decision. The new rig has been everything I thought it would be and then some. And we can all fit in it :-laf

I didn't know what to expect in this thread, but I am really enjoying it!
I've only briefly driven and ridden in a couple of 2 gens, almost bought a '01 5 speed QC Sport before my 04 came on the scene, and always thought a 12V QC is the all time ultimate CTD.
Reading the comment about the "Quality" truck, I started to think about what Chrysler itself went through between '94 and '02, and I invite anyone to do a bit of research on that if you don't know. I firmly believe Chrysler was doing extremely very well in the mid-late '90's with image, quality, and the lineup. I think it's why the Daimler "merger" happened.
I think someday I'd like to get me a 12 valver if I find the right one.

I still enjoy working on the 12 valves,Seeing the smile on a new ctd owners face after adding a 100hp/200ftlbs.There are some nice ones out there still. The last one only had 60k on it and came out of Washington
