Just got a 2011 Ram 2500 CC LB from OK from auction (sight unseen). It was a 1 owner fleet/company truck with 210K. I got the truck transported here and upon delivery found out trans only works in 4th gear when in D. Put my scanner on it and came up with 31 codes!!!
I also noticed that many times when I turn the key to start it doesn’t turn over or do anything. I have to wait and keep trying. Also when I put my scanner on real time information reading I got a few error codes LINK ERROR check connections try again and blank screen for real time data. After trying a few times I was able to read the data stream while engine was idling.
Confirmed Codes taken at first:
P2509 ECM/PCM POWER INPUT SIGNAL INTERMITTENT
U010C LOST COMMUNICATION WITH TURBOCHARGER CONTROL MODULE A
P2262 TURBO CHARGER BOOST PRESSURE NOT DETECTED
P0471 EXHAUST PRESSURE SENSOR A CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE
P0750 SHIFT SOLENOID A MALFUNCTION
P0846 TRANSMISSION FLUID PRESSURE SENSOR/SWITCH B CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE
P0871 TRANSMISSION FLUID PRESSURE SENSOR/SWITCH C CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE
P0876 TRANSMISSION FLUID PRESSURE SENSOR/SWITCH D CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE
P0988 TRANSMISSION FLUID PRESSURE SENSOR/SWITCH E CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE
P04DB CRANKCASE VENTILIATION SYSTEM DISCONNECTED
P014C 02 SENSOR SLOW RESPONSE RICH TO LEAN (BANK 1 SENSOR)
P0111 INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE
P2BAC OXIDES OF NITROGEN EXCEEDANCE DEACTIVATION OF EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION
The rest are repeat of above codes pending.

I did try to clear codes but 9 came back: P0750 (confirmed), P2BAC (permenant), P0111 (permenant), P014C (permenant), P04DB (perm), P0988 (perm), P0846 (perm), P0871 (perm), P0876 (perm), P0750 (perm).
I decided to try to drive it before I towed it into shop so I put it in D and let the truck roll in idle until I built up some speed then pushed the accelerator and it almost drove like it was normal on city streets around the house. I didn’t go over 40 mph so 4th gear wasn’t bad. At the stop signs I let it slow roll instead of stop so it accelerated when I needed to.
I want to get it repaired but don’t want to take it in without any background info on the issues so will try to get an idea of what is wrong beforehand. Do you think this is failure of hard parts (trans, sensors, solenoids) or more of software, ECM/PCM or wiring/harness issues or a little of both. I was told trans stuck in 4th is limp home mode what can cause that condition?
Where should I start with this?

I would be afraid of an auction with all the flooded vehicles hitting the market. Any chance yours has been under water with all those codes?

No real help from me but the 2509 code could be the source of many of the others. Have you went through and checked out your harness and connections?
Did you contact the seller and try to get any info out of them? It sounds like you were expecting a running functional truck. If that's the case I'd be spreading their name all over the internet. Dishonest people suck.

auction vehicles- as is where is.Very common way to dump problem vehicles. After major floods the market is overwelmed with problem cars. The last big one the insurance companies put up a website to list vins that they paid out on.

I doubt it that these are flood related issues. The auction houses are getting tighter out there with regards to flood vehicles. I think it was just the issues maybe also the miles that triggered the company to sell it but that is just a guess. There is everything out there from turn key almost new vehicles to crushed up burnt out shells. Obviously the better it looks on the listing the higher the price. I go for the in the middle condition where repairs are probably needed but not that much. In reality they are all a gamble.

That is the main indicator if it was totaled. The insurance pays out and it is noted as the seller and the title will come back with the insurance company name on it. If the insurance did not pay out the seller has to sign disclosure/affidavit and provide some proof that it wasn't. Not a perfect system but it does cut down on fraud.

That was what I was wondering but I wanted to throw it out there to see what people with more knowledge think. I am kinda new to the Cummins the last one only required front accessory repairs not any electronic diagnosis. Now for the newbie question where is the ECM/PCM harness?
No contacting of seller on this one this is pure risk auction you either hit big or you lose big LOL!
