I thought you had it all figured out.
I tried to tell you.....

Moist of the sensors ,temp ,and oil ,etc are the same ones and if you use the alternator from the 24V ( they hook up the same ) the tack drive is the same to from what i can tell

Why would they change all of the sending units ?
There is no logical reason why cummins would do so .
Dodge even for that same reason ,mouther mopar did not reinvent the wheel each model year for a temp or oil sensor
The charging system hooks up exactly the same ,plus he has the diesel already just as i have the v 10 you use the sending unuts from the others if there different .This is what Ford Cummins does too also the part numbvers are the same , look it up

I did look up on napa web site ,im sure there might be a check bengine light come on take the bulb out , Im going to put the 92 in my 98 and use the v10 sending units the vtack on that runs off the harmonic sensor on the front bhas 3 wires just the same as the v 10 has only thing that i need to figure out is what wire to splice into to power the pump . Autoworld MT in Montana put a 4 bt in a v10 truck with no issues so there is ca source to call and really the guage dont care were it gets a signal from ,and i guess if he wanted to get real fancy he could put half the 24v parts on the 12 v block and go with it

I see no reason to swap the dash , only thing your gaining is a headache and maybe a fuel guage that say diesel , Dodge did not reinvent the wheel every time they done something if the engine plug is the same you can just plug and play and my guess even the ecm , but in a pinch and this is what im going to do on my 98 im just going to find the hot on and off by the switch and one that dont fade when in the run position and as far as the grid heaters they can be set up on a push button same goes for the fuel heater they can be wired in as well Auto World in Montana put a 4 bt in a v 10 truck so i might even call them for information

So far I got the the guages to come on line trying to figure out why I am not charging if its bad grounds or something else no tach and I'm not sure if the temp guages works or not as I don't think the engine is getting real warm the radiator is warm so it might not be over a 130 yet ?

Nothing works with no tach. Ur going gas to diesel. Most thats done it including me have went 24v diesel to 12v. Had a local guy do it gas to diesel. I sold him all the ecm and wiring from the 24v to make work on the 12v. As scott mentioned. And imo 01 and 02 are easier than 98.5-00. Just swap cam gears add tach adapter like p pumping your 24v . Then adapt all the sensors. I have those too.

I have all guages working except. The tach ,if anyone has any ideas I am all ears I did have to turn the alternator to a different type of regulator

Does that work off the crank sensor?

The v10 and CTD are the same part number on rock auto for a 98. They are pretty cheap, forget exactly but on my 96 it was like .049 to .051 clearance off the damper, have you checked that? Will that work with a 1st GEN damper?

I have a fluidampr now I think I trashed my original damper, might have the old parts for the stock sensor, it's a small bracket that goes off the cover bolts. I put a new sensor on mine and extended it since the fluidampr mounts at the lower right not on top of the damper. So I should have the old sensor in the pile as well, but for $26 would just get a new one.

If someone thinks that's it and you need that small bracket let me know and I can try to dig it up. Pretty sure I kept that.

I don't see that sensor on a 92 CTD on rock auto. I kinda remember reading the tach worked different on those, isn't there a optional external tach on a 1st gen?

Simple question if it is wired up and everything checks out did the v10 gauge work before, maybe you can try that gauge check procedure, not sure if that works anymore since your upgrade?

What ecm are you using, use the FSM for that one and see what that says in the trouble shooting portion.

The v10 and CTD are the same part number on rock auto for a 98.

If that's actually what RockAuto says, they're wrong. Here are your Mopar part numbers for the crank sensors:

  • 1998 2500 w/V-10 - 56027864
  • 1998 2500 w/24V Diesel - 5015488AB
  • 1998 2500 w/12V Diesel - 4882763

I did mine using a 36-1 tone wheel kit I got from Destroked, an OE Cummins crank sensor, and the OE ECM, PCM, and wiring from the 98.5 I put the 12V in.

Went back and looked was under "connector".

There is only one connector listed on the V10, and that p/n is also listed on the diesel page.

I was thinking if the sensor off the V10 would work could hook it up and try, it already sounds like a project with lots of solutions out there.

Going to need a crank sensor of some sort, that kit or new damper set up that will work with his engine.

As you originally posted that's how it works, decent looking kit for sure.
