NV5600 - Problems after rebuild

Exhaust Gasping Sound, Loss of some Power

A member wants my 6sd trans, and is willing to swap his auto,I am looking for second opinions about the swap but not the reasoning? I have my reasons. His automatic seems to be built, I do not know much about them except my HO was not offered with one at first because they wouldn't hold up . It seems an almost impossible task with all the changes, interior and hardware. Would I be able to use my smarty at 5 with my slide-in camper and trailer at about 16000 lbs gross ?

Your going to have to swap computers and there will be wiring harnesses to purchase or swap. It is not as easy as a weekend job. Friend of mine just did this on a 05 stroke. He had a parts truck with everything he needed and was still stumped a few times.

If someone else is willing to do all the work, you trust them, and you want the auto go for it........ Or maybe swap trucks?

No need to swap ECM, just get MADS to write you a recovery tune for an auto trans. The problem you will have from an 05 to an 03 is you will need the PCM and wiring harness for the 03 auto truck, the 05 harness is different and goes directly to the ECM so no PCM with it. Check and see but don't think the manual trucks had a separate PCM, if it does then you would need the harness and the correct PCM.

I vote to swap trucks as well, is there color or options differences that make it difficult to part with current truck. It’ll be a nightmare to buy parts or other issues when VIN is required for whatever reason.

Much easier to swap trucks. way less work and more potential for success. I'm no expert on this, but from where I sit, the only way I would do these swaps is pre-electronics. even then, there wer some mods and issues. ron

I will second what Wiredawg stated.....Swapping trucks is much easier if your set on having an automatic.As for 16K and a Smarty on Level 5,thats alot of heat coming along with all that added fueling.Without the supporting airflow mods to cool the truck down,I would advise against that idea.......Andy

P.S.-Howdy Wiredawg!!!

I gave up on the transmission swapo .So I have my truck listed for sale, I thought the HO 03's were desirable however no-one has nibbled on it. At my price anyways. So I guess I am stuck with it. Really hasn't missed a beat . No auto for me. :{

The 6spd Manual 3rd Gen's are the popular versions, especially if equipped with the NV5600 6spd, look at my sig. However keep the faith on your truck, I don't recall the millage.

less than 100K

big ole cast iron 6spd

Keep it advertised here in TDR, I'd jump on it, but two things against me. First is I can't use a short bed, second is I need a 3500 DRW. What is your asking price? If you don't mind saying. Less than 100K miles on that truck is very desirable. My brother asked me if I would sell him my 04.5 (see sig), the credit union gave him a $26K loan to purchase it. Way above my asking price, due to a family discount. He couldn't find a low mileage 3rd gen with the NV5600. BTW yours is considered low mileage.

lol i didn't even know they offered 3500's in short bed.
good looking truck. i love my early 04 with a built auto.
post up a link to the CL add.
