Fuel delivery issues?..

Trying to get my sons truck running again (listed in signature). Thought it as the starter, changed Friday, started right up. Drove it home, but it died on him twice. We got it into the garage & could not see any fuel movement. Changed the in-tank pump on Saturday night. Ran fine on Sunday, Monday & most of the day today. He forgot to get fuel after work & it died. We put half a tank in & still will not start. Towed it to the house. It shows a P0628 code. Any help would be great.

I googled p0628. One thread said it was the fuel pump.
The other site had test procedures to rule out several ( quite a few problems) items/ components before you spend a lot of money.

If it was completely run dry then you need to bump the starter a couple of times to let the fuel pump in the tank run for 20 second each. To refuel the full system that is empty, NO NEED to run the starter for this, just bump it.

Cycled the starter at least a dozen times and still not getting any fuel to the motor, not even to the filter canister. I wouldn’t think a brand new pump would be bad already.
