Here I am

Pick your poison.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Marine Recon 12 valve engines still coming from Cummins.

I've been making regular runs down to south Jersey, and tonight, the Mrs. wanted to dinner at the Cracker Barrell down there.
The lot was pretty full, and since I had my Ram, I default to the outer perimeter. I see opening, and as I approached, I see peer trucks so I backed in.
I started thinking about the forum here, and topics pertaining to 4 gen frustrations to the point of jumping ship.
So here's what it looked like as I walked away from my truck.
PICK YOUR POISON!

You can have only one!
A- a F450 pickup, very unusual truck indeed!
B- a 3 gen that's only been to a dealer once since 2004, but is probably 20 pounds lighter since then (due to rust).
C- a 4 gen dually creampuff.

So we had a great dinner and browsed the country store. When we came out, A and C were gone, but my truck had a different friend.

Before I make my choice, do the lights work on all of them since it was raining today?

By the way, I love how that black Ram took multiple spaces. I used to do that stuff.

My lights are fine. I think I have a sketchy tail lamp board, but my lights are fine in all weather. The white dually was hogging over the line as well.

Having never owned a gen 3 I have to admit I'm partial to gen 4's after barely a year of ownership. So far I'm more than happy with fit and finish, power and handling of the truck. I've got a Tradesman so haven't had the electrical Gremlins some have spoke of...at least not yet. I can only hope my long term opinion doesn't change. I plan on keeping this long term as I did my 98. I hope.

Off topic, but I've got a close friend with a 13 Silverado with all the bells and whistles. He's had many electrical issues of his own including a haywire dual zone climate system with a mind of its own. Had it to the dealership multiple times, it gets fixed for a while then goes nuts again. Coming back from West Virginia this past week on our annual wheeling trip the system defaulted to max heat on start up and wouldn't do anything else. He had a miserable 7-1/2 hour trip in 80+ degree heat while I cruised in comfort in A/C in my simplistic scantly optionedTradesman :)

They haven't fixed that yet? My wife had a 2005 Silverado WT with crank windows and manual locks. But it had that dual zone HVAC with a manual slider for the temp for each side. That stupid system would never work correctly. It was always full heat on the driver's side and cold on the passenger. She would have to pull over, shut the truck off and restart. It would then reset for a while.

Couldn't blame that one on road salt corrosion. It happened from when that truck was brand new.

Will my wife keeps asking me if I want a new truck (4th gen)! I keep telling her my truck is barely broken in 1t is only 10 years old and114,000 miles on the OD. The truck does have some dings and scratches plus a little rust is now showing up but it is a truck that I drive when I ever need to. I like my truck and the truck did go on a diet some time ago losing a little weight. So, I keep this third gen a little longer.

I’ll try my hardest to keep the Mega until I can’t drive it anymore..the 4th gens sure are nice and maybe I’ll buy a 1/2 ton gasser later on for everyday usage but the Mega Cab stays...

There was a little but of surface rust in front wheel arches a few years back. Sanded it down and put undercoat on it. Wheel arch trim covers it. Try to remove trims every other year to check on it. On the short list for this year. Last time it was fine.

I am going to do something similar to the 2010. I have an appointment for the truck's a Ziebart in June. Normally, they will pay for rust repair. But if they don't for some reason, I'll just scratch it off and cover.

Still undecided what I am going to do with the 07 bedside. Depends on what it costs for the rear end repair. I may hold of for another year.

Something I just thought of.
What I’m real happy about is that I still feel good parking amongst the newest rigs. Towards the end of my 1 gen ownership, I felt aged amongst the newer rigs in the lot, but not inferior, until I thought about sheer power and lockup converters

The difference now is that everyone knows why you are holding to the 5.9l. Where you live, the emissions regulations, etc. all make our trucks somewhat desirable, even if it is only to a small segment of diesel owners who want to still be able to enjoy the performance era without the fear of trying to stay legal.

The new trucks, when deleted and programmed can do everything and more than what our 5.9's can do. But there is always that "how do I get it inspected" or "what if I get caught" going on in their heads, even if they are unwilling to admit it.
