Street twin disc clutch failure (ugly)

Y-block Ford

Mike knows about this with that 'ole worn out stuff he used to drive, same as me, :D

Yes, I can still remember when shifting the Aux between 2nd and 3rd you had to twist the knob while making the shift or the rails would lock....

427 GM with the governor bypassed, keep the tach between 4000 and 4500.....dual cherry bombs glowing bright red. 14 yard dump with gravel running off over the sideboards (so you really had 16 yards on)....And the heat in the cab was unbearable.....drop into a mudhole and lose the foot throttle because the motor twisted so bad the linkage lost travel....no maxis, only single can air chambers. Park Brake was a stick cut to length placed between the bottom of the dash and the air brake pedal.....and don't shut the truck off because the air compressor needed to be pumping......

That's where you learn how to drive......

And the fuel consumption, dual 50 gallon tanks. Filled up at night so ready for the next day. Left tank would be dry by 1.30pm, switch to Right tank to finish the day. 70 -80 gallons of gas some days....the carb secondaries were open and in use all day long unless you were idling waiting to get loaded...

I put a lot of miles with a 549 IHC and a 534 Ford but they were both 5 and 2, easy peezy:)

I like reading the comments in the video, one guy says he would pray for all green lights:D

Never drove either, but rebuilt some of each out of grain trucks. Enormous chunks of iron. The 413 Chrysler out of a Mack R-Model gasser was a flyweight!

Here is a 5 and a 4 behind a 549 IH gasser. Not as snappy as the GM 427 but you get the idea...

Please take note that both transmissions are never placed in neutral at the same time....Bad JuJu if you do so....

At that point you simply have no choice but to pull over, let everything quit spinning and start again..

I didn't realize the small block Detroit 60 was such a low RPM engine. This young man is good!

Then ya got this cool cat, I figured cow boy driver, but sissified and all, he is good too!

Both better than I am:)

What's up with the super tall shift levers? I see these on all the bro dozer big rigs.

I’d like to see the shift pattern/ plate for that IH 5x4.
I don’t know the 549. Is it like the 501-6? I had to dress up and start/ idle that one on a stand 30 years ago in order to get my job.

Looks a lot like a 9 liter diesel.....

Probably this...

He starts out in 2nd / 2nd, then 3rd / 2nd, then 3rd / 3rd, then 3rd / 4th, then 4th / 3rd, then to 4th / 4th. You don't need all of the gears at your disposal as you can see.....1st in the Aux box is only for creeping, etc.
Plus with 20 possible forward gears there are several close combinations of the two transmissions...so some of the progressive shifts would be duplicates of other stick combinations. So you skip those....
