Wzup fellas just cuurious and wanna know what diesel stations are you guys pumping diesel into your beasts. Is there a clean diesel and is there a dirty diesel station, and if so which to avoid, thanks!! I usually fill up at shell, walmart, city time, over the road exxon, shells, chevrons.

I only use Shell, Chevron or Mobil when on the road. But when in town, I use whatever Diesel Smith's Grocery store has in contract. Its clean and I get up to $.50 cents off a gallon at a great price to start at.

I look for non bio blends if possible. I like Mills Fleet Farm, and Hy-Vee as they offer non-bio fuel. My nephew is a chemist and worked in the lab at our local biodiesel plant and warned me about bio blends especially in the cold. I believe his exact words were, " I wouldn't burn that cr@p."

High volume stations usually are safe. My area is bio blend without option, so there’s no choice there. 1/2 mile from the house is a Sunoco that is reasonable in price, and there’s always a landscaper or local contractor in there. Stay away from dumpy places where you can see cobwebs and dust on the nozzle.
To OP, I’d be more concerned about where/ how to buy DEF.

Locally I use just one station for my needs, this is the Meijer's grocery store fuel station in my town. Which I get a dime off of every gallon of fuel by using their credit card. My wife uses this station also for her TDI Jetta.

Now when I am on the road towing my 5er I use high volume truck stops that we find in a book called the "Next EXIT". I have never had an issue with these stations.

I do stay away from MOBIL and BP stations for my local needs. Why? They over charge for the same diesel fuel that I can purchase at Meijer's or Wal Mart (Murphy Oil). Right on the pumps at the Mobil or BP diesel pumps are placards that state this is not a refined product of their company but from a third-party source. So, why should I pay anywhere from $0.30 to $0.40 a gallon more just for their name. Shell does not sell diesel fuel in my town so, I do not know about them.

I have been recently using a fuel station ( it just happens to be Shell) that has only recently (within the past 2 years added diesel pumps. They used to have only gasoline.

I figure the tanks are cleaner if recently installed???

Don't use stations that are receiving fuel deliveries because the act of dropping fuel into tanks stirs up debris on the bottom. But that debris can take awhile to settle, so you may get debris even after the delivery truck has left.

Carrying 112 gallons gives me choices. When traveling, I like Flying-J due to RV filling station and high volume. Snacks are usually pretty good too. In the local area Wal Mart, Murphy, and HEB (TX grocery store chain) get my business. Old school me, I add Lucas Fuel Treatment. Cheers, Ron

YES! A cardinal rule I forgot to mention! Goes for all fuels and vehicles.

I start pumping with the nozzle a little away from the inlet to see if its clean, when on the road. Also stay away from real cheap prices, its usually a sign of issues. In Parker AZ there is a station that is real cheap and has dirty Diesel, as an example.

I like the Flying J RV lanes also when I'm traveling. Very convenient when towing and you don't have to tie up one of the truck lanes.

There are a couple of local stations here that due a large truck volume. I buy at one of those when I am around home.

When I started this game, my first trip to Florida was a hoot. I thought I was a big rig going to the big boy pumps n all.
Hey, at least the truck (1gen) SOUNDED the part. Lol.

I actually try and avoid the truck lanes if at all possible. Unless you are using a fuel card, it can sometimes be a real pain to get the pumps turned on depending on location. The guys driving for a living don't want to be waiting for me to run in, pay, come back out, fuel, and run back in for my receipt or change.

I really like Flying J. Their website allows you to search locations along a route that have the RV lanes, RV dumps, etc. In every location that has those features, they have dedicated lanes for RV fueling away from the regular islands and separate from the truck lanes. You don't have to feel rushed to get in and out fast and there is plenty of room to get your unit in and out without issue. I absolutely hate using standard gas stations to buy fuel while towing. You never fail to have someone block you in or make getting out a real pain. I know that guys do it all the time and don't seem to mind it. But it's not for me. It really has to be a last resort before i use one while on the road with a trailer.

Will that's all I use when I am on the road with my 5er. I am 13'4" tall and 55' long, I don't fit into a regular station to easy. I follow H. Barlow advice on when using a truck lane. I wait behind a rig until it is my turn. I will pull forward go in and prepay for a certain amount of fuel, always more than I need. When I am done I pull forward just like the regular truckers do the painted line. This way another truck can fill up as I am getting my receipt. If we need to go back inside I pull into a parking space and than go inside. I have never held up a trucker doing this.

Thats the etiquette for trucking, if I'm in the situation that requires me to go through the truck lanes, I do the same.

Ditto on following protocol for the truckers in the truck fill lanes. Just thought I would throw in the rare, but necessary time when I have the full rig going to the 7-11 and the awning is low. Been a long time but pulled in had wife spot me close to the awning filled truck, then backed out to the road. I'm sure everyone has a favorite fill up story. Ron

What station? I would think that if there fuel is the cheapest by far that it would pump a lot of fuel. So I am not sure how it could be dirty.

Good question, I have thought about it as well. It has tempted me many times as I have driven by. I don't have a answer just a couple of theories to go on. If the tank is damaged and allowing outside influences to dirty the fuel, is just one of the theories. But I can assure you its brown in color. My buddy uses it in his 2nd gen, when he is in Parker , which has only been a handfull of times in the last 10 years.
