UPS switching fleet to RAM trucks??? That's the rumor I just heard

Heard a rumor that Ford has gotten the boot from UPS and they are going RAM fleet wide. Anybody else hear that? The ups driver I spoke with seems to like it compared to his 5.4 powered truck he got rid of.

That’s pretty fascinating. I don’t see trucks like that around here. It’s either the classic package car, a larger box truck or TT’s.

I could definitely see the need for a nimble 4 wheel drive up there.

Im assuming they're all gassers?

All of our ups rigs are still diesel holdouts, but I hear they are all going gas.

As a kid, there was the ever present Ford chassis 300-6 /4speed package car. They must have gotten 25-30 years out of these cars. It’s been like that until about10 years ago. Different looking vehicles started popping up with different sounding powertrains, gas and diesel. I believe the newest ones are Gasoline.
Another observation of UPS has been that IMHO, their maintenance seems to be slacking. I guess Amazon is hurting everyone, but at one time, the UPS fleet was absolutely Sterling, but now I see sloppiness and even trucks running with lights out and even a broken mirror.

We have those around here for small towns that need 4wd and have large routes with lower volume. First I’ve seen a Ram thou.

Years ago, my buddy that had the machine shop was approached by UPS to do engines for them. As you said, at that time the package cars(heaven forbid you call it a truck)were 300 Fords, and 292 GM I-6s. They gave him a huge binder to review, and in it they outlined all of their specs, what brand of every component that would be used, exactly how they wanted it done, painted, and they had to be run on a test stand for a given time with parameters to monitor before going to them. It was dang impressive. In the end he opted out.

That's the way it is here, 4x4 is need for all the BFE mud hole roads we have. Our delivery guy has a new one that he really likes.

Ozy, do they make the Promaster in all wheel or 4 wheel drive? That's why we have the trucks up here.......crappy roads and lots of snowy hills that front wheel drive won't work with.

Now all the Ram trucks that UPS has swapped to are in a large storage lot being unused. They’ve been quarantined due to the front end recalls in which parts aren’t available for. Way to go Ram.

Say what you want to about Ford. But when they have a recall, parts are available that day.

It wasnt Rams fault, but they did the same thing to our 5 company trucks when they got hit on the big Takata air bag fiasco. Ended up working out some kinda deal with the dealership they do business with on a couple of used trucks at the back of the lot. Our line of work is HELLL on trucks.... I would of loved to of been a fly on the wall the day they got delivered back to the dealership 6 months later

My Department won’t touch GMC or Ram. They know they will not get the support. Makes me real upset. Another topic here about DEF fluid and a Ram DEF heater/ pump is $1200 if you can get it. The same thing for Ford is about $500. FCA better get with it!

Wayne, part of me suspects $$$$ at purchase over actual support . Rarely does a large entity actually think much beyond the initial contract.
