Swaping differentials

Deciding to swap out rear diff to a eaton trutrac locker and LS in the front, Anyone done anything similar? Any suggestions other than going with brand mention?

i have eaton rear in my 06. works great i would do an air or elec. locker front with lock out hubs.

Is your rear diff open?

There weren't many trucks sold with an open rear diff, and the OE LSD works nearly identical to the trutrac.

No LSD. pretty much worthless

Bummer. Not too many didn't have it back then. I don't recall the year where they became standard.

Did you do the work yourself? Had a shop do it? What kind of price to have it done?

It was stock on my 05, and now 18.

I had thought by 05 it was standard on diesels, but apparently not.

I have Eaton Detroit Trutracs front and rear and consider it the best mod I have made to my truck. I ordered my truck with the LSD but to be honest could never be certain it was actually working correctly. With the Trutracs there is no doubt. They engage at the slightest loss of traction. I had mine installed by a driveline shop.

the rear locker should take 2 or3 hours in the shop , in the driveway most of the day.300 to 400$

I had purchased the front Trutrac and a Dynatrac free spin kit online thinking I could do it myself but those grand plans didn't happen so I finally took everything to Dan's Driveline here in Las Vegas and they charged me $1100 to install everything including a bearing kit. I cannot locate the invoice for the rear install but that one also included bearings, parking brake shoes and a 5" driveline so my guess is that they probably lumped all the labor into a single line item just like the first invoice. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I would call your local driveline shop and see if they can give you an estimate.

So I ended up going with the Detroit locker on the rear, have not done the front yet. Like it so far. ran around 1300 for everything.

I used one for years in my GC as DD, after I get used to it it was fine. Sure not for everyone.
