Well, if you like various weather, TN is the place for you. There will be a few times every winter when the temp is below 0* and generally we get at least one decent snow. There will be a few days in the summer over 100*. Rainfall can be average to heavy, 2019 was one of the wettest on record. We have floods, tornadoes, thunderstorms, frost, ice, snow, earthquakes, you name it. If you don't like the weather here, just hang around an hour or two and it will change.

All that said, the POLITICS in this once golden state are running people out faster than the black plague in England.

The crappy thing is that even thou they claim that's why they are leaving they start voting cali BS laws into effect where they are moving to.

It's amazing how hated a california license plate is around home.

Same here. People come to Nashville to visit, for a special event, or vacation, and they love it. They come back again and really do a deep dive into the area and the next thing you know, they move here because they “like it here better than where they live.” Then, they want to start changing everything to the way it was where they came from.

They’ll buy a place 500 yards from a race track and then complain about the noise on Friday and Saturday night.
Buy a place a 1/4 mile east of a dairy farm and complain about the smell.
Buy a place next to me out in the county because they don’t want to be in town then call the sheriff every time I go out and shoot.

You hit my button on that one.

What big city are you close too?

Redding and Chico are around 30 minutes, give or take. Sacramento about 2 hours. Whatever I need is available by car...or I can have it delivered to my driveway in a couple days. Who doesn't internet shop these days.

People have such a misguided understanding of California... We're not all crazy libs. The country up here isn't palm trees and golf courses, and no I don't live by any movie stars either.

To understand what the geography is like, I can waterski, snow ski, mountain climb, go the ocean, fish in the river, go to the desert, go to the big city, etc,.....all in the same day if I want to.

That's not to say there aren't other amazing places in America but just making the point that if people are leaving this state then you know there's a reason.

Sound's nice. When I visited Australia in 1979 I was in awe or the rural nature of the place between cities. Clean,quiet and the surf out front. My friend moved from Ukiah to Gold Beach 28 yrs ago. Ton's of rain but the kids grew up well and they still like it. Rural living does require something like a 12v manual and stock tires with the longer distances.

I can remember a little ditty from back in the late 70's which played on one of our mottos when Californians invaded pretty hard. Went something like:

Keep Washington Green
Bring and spend money
Then GO HOME!​

Heck. Our property values went up all right...as well as our property taxes going through the roof. Californians would sell their overpriced California properties and pay cash here, outbidding a lot of locals who now no longer can afford a modest home. Then the over reaching laws appear...decimating local businesses and recreation lands; and the postage-stamp sized mega housing developments, stacked "un-affordable housing" apartments, and "voluntary, we don't need your bleepin' help" imported homeless setting up tents and make-shift shacks everywhere. Scary to go to some of the local state recreation areas for fear of being violently accosted. Forest fires, tent fires, dead bodies, drug paraphernalia, trash, break-ins are everywhere.
I don't care where they come from, I just wish they would leave their problems where they came from and not inject them here.

I left San Diego (a place I grew up and liked) in 78 when the E Coast liberals flooded in and it seemed that the only people I met were from somewhere else with different ideas of what freedom was than mine, and were becoming the majority. Moved to WA after a small stint on MN road construction. WA was a fantastic place, even liked the rain. A guy I knew in a Lumber yard I frequented used to wear a shirt "Don't Californicate Washinton." Left there in 92 after the Cal liberals flocked there to take advantage of the reasonable living conditions, forcing prices higher and changing the political atmosphere (Here we go again I thought). Moved to rural AZ where it seemed the outlaws ruled. Probably die here, but things are changing now here too as the "smart" Cals move here, but just can't stand to leave it alone - seems they just have to make it comfortable to them with lots of ubiquitous rules. I feel for the real Cal people who suffer with the new reality they face every day living in Cal.
All that said, the country has made incredible gains in air quality somewhat driven by Cal. I can still remember visiting my bud in early 70s in Riverside where you could see the brown air everywhere in a football fields length of view. But I also think we have reached the point of diminishing returns on alot of this stuff.

Yes...A great boon to the state's tax coffers...as well as increase in crimes, and automobile accidents...and roaming idiots...all which get denied when presenting the facts... I can see a number of industries benefiting from this, so I guess those in charge (gum-it-ups) are doing us a favor???
Where do these "poor" people acquire all the money to imbibe in such a costly "lifestyle"?
